Unfortunatly not everyone is in the position of being able to get credit for a new car, ie. bad credit history etc.

Unless you know a place that will, if so let me know

I agree, not all of us are as rich as Jimbo.

But it's worth ringing some of the big Taxi suppliers and talk to them. It's in their interests to sell you a motor.

It might also be worth having a look at back issues of PHM http://www.phtm.co.uk/ . I seem to remember someone advertising motors to those folks with less than A1 credit.

But as Steveo says, try your best to keep away from that Yes Credit shower. [-X

I have my own car, was just pointing out the cost of renting a car from my office!
Not a bad deal really,if you take in a grand a week, pay out 430(includes fuel) leaving you a nice little wage. (minus your tax of course!!)

Not sure its possible to earn a grand a week in Swindon.

On my observations during the day you are on average 1 job every 30 mins!!!!

So in Swindon when you have paid out your car and radio rent and you work out the hours and how many jobs you have completed there is many a time when your working for around the minimum wage!!

Especially when you wait all that time and when you get the job through its only a minimum fare, ie.£3.80

Too many drivers + Not enough jobs = Swindon

Not sure what its like in other areas?

Yes but it's still better to clear £800 rather than £600. :-$

buying your own vehicle aint a bad idea at all. I reallly wonder how folk manage to pay the weigh ins every week. I ts also good for tax purposes as u are investing in the business and having ur own car, if on finance, means in any case will be helll of a lot cheaper than renting, plus plenty of time off. If u buy the right vehicle, then maintenance is not such a big issue.

i agree with trigot i have my own motor on the road so all i have to pay my firm is the radio and thats £117 a wk and i have always paid that off with contract work and always have a few quid left over for myself at the end of the month which helps pay the fuel bill :D .

you can buy a 2nd hand motor with the warranty still on it and you can write the depreciation cost of the motor and repair costs against you final accounts for the year.

best part of having your own motor and not having it double shifted is you can work when you want and dont have set hours you have to work makes a big diff to home life as well

some of our ph rent cars for £200 a week.
they pay £95 office rent.
add up to a £100 for fuel means they have too take £400 to go home with a fiver.
bloody mad. [-(

I own mine and just rent the radio (£70pw) but a new Ocavia on our system is £250 all in including insurance. There are cheaper cars available but they're a bit rough and ready.

We have a track/buy scheme on here, ie, a 51/52 plate vectra would be about 4k, so you rent it at £100pw for 40 weeks and at the end it's yours to keep. Good idea to get someone started then they can upgrade to something better without the big outlay.

I think that's an exellent idea for those drivers unable to buy a new motor. =D>

the guy i used to work for up until 2 or so wks ago...
p/h wanted.

£170 per wk..that incl... insurance / tax / radio.
i had to service it and tyre it
if i had my own car..it would be £75 pw for the radio.

i gave up and told him to stuff it....got my own new car...plates ect....and going it alone very soon once plates come through.

no £170 pw pay out.....just to find £104 pw for my new 55 plate skoda superb elegance + £40 p/w for insurance.
but at least its my own...
got contract work lined up so i,m on to a good start...and i know a good whack of his(and others ) customer base having worked p/h in my town for several firms over the last 9 yrs  .

time to kick a**
