Well the insurance have been on the phone ,they said it is a right off .
£15,000 worth of damage . They have have offered me £5,900 less excess =£5,562.

My car was a Mondeo 12 plate with 77,000 miles ,does this seem a fair settlement ?

I would say refuse 1st offer and see if they will up it a little normally 2nd offer is a bit higher

Clear5ly you have the make, model and registration details of the car so you should be alright for your no claims.

Not necessarily if the other vehicle had been sold and the new owners didn't bother insuring and taxing it then you have no option but to claim against your own insurance and if it is a big claim as this will be then his no claims or at least 2 years worth are out the window

As for the toe rag that hit him it might well be possible to trace them even if it isn't the bloke who claimed to have sold the car  but all they can do is prosecute over the accident and lack of insurance

This is what the MIB is for. If the accident can be proven to be the fault of the uninsured driver then you shouldn't be penalised for the claim and the MIB should cover the cost of your repairs.

If your not fully com.

Is the £5900 the total payout, or is there extra to come for pit test, licence, respray, equipment fitting, loss of earnings etc. ?

You should be put back in the position you were before the accident, so the amount should not be just for the value of a vehicle of a similar age/mileage/specification but also the costs of putting back on the road as a working taxi.

ie. cost of a 77k 2012 mondeo + plus the amount to put on as a taxi.
