Most of the big Ph operators around here with the exception of school runs will not allow there drivers to take work independently as they believe they would poach their customers, one of my colleagues got caught out agreeing to take someone to the airport privately but the muppet was late for the early morning pickup and the customer couldn't get hold of him so rang the office and of course the office had no record of the booking which led to him parting company with the company forthwith #-o #-o #-o #-o

How does a private hire driver independently do a school contract if he does not have a private hire operators license?

I never said the driver in question did a school run, obviously the drivers who do their own school contracts have their own op license or are hacks, I was trying to make the point that legally hacks and Ph with there own op licenses should be free to take their own bookings but the operator who they rent their radio/datahead off will not normally allow this under the usual threat of it's my way or the highway.

hows that then? seriously, if you work for a p/h company why would you want a ops licence? firstly all hacks here have to be black, he is in a white merc, secondly he couldn't get a flag down as the car is plated as a p/h car ( states on the plate available by pre- booking only, as mine , a black hack states available for immediate hire) & hang on, the fooking pilot light has gone off on my computer, need to reboot , brb

around here he cant, although if you have a hack that acts as a ops lcence, so my mate who is a hack has about 10 or more p/h drivers on school runs that he dished out , the only thing was he had to buy a ops licence if he had p/h doing them, he did & its £500 py (??) so all he done was tell the p/h drivers he wanted 50 (or thereabouts) quid off each one to pay for it,they did so not a problem

Hell no

The point of having a newer car is that it's more reliable. If I'm renting why would I care how old the cab is?
