I thought they had knocked that place down.

If they haven't then it should have been, years ago.

You can't even replace a switch or socket in your own house now; that's the law.

So why do B&Q still sell them to the public? :?

There are loads of these types of contradictions in sales. Its not illegal to sell the product, just to fit it. I can buy a part for a gas appliance, but I'm not a Corgi registered fitter. I can fit a part to a gas appliance, but if found out I would be prosecuted.

Interesting discussion. Anyone have any statute/case law? JD?

We have discussed engaging the meter on several occasions on a booked job the proper course is to advise the passenger that the meter is being engaged, or ask the passenger if it is alright to start the meter, if they say no, then waiting is at your own discretion. However if you work for a private hire operator then I suppose waiting is at the P/H operators discretion. Naturally a hackney cab driver on a public hire can start the meter as soon as the passenger gets in the cab or has signalled that you are hired.

Regards

JD

"Essentially the distinction is between major work, or work in what are deemed high-risk areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and gardens, and minor work such as replacing switches or adding sockets to existing circuits. (NB to those with a knowledge of the IEE Wiring Regulations, the term “minor work” is used here in its generic sense rather than the meaning defined in the Wiring Regs.)

A very important and fundamental point to note is that DIY electrical work has not been outlawed. It has been brought within the remit of the Building Regulations and cannot be carried out as freely as it was before, and in many cases cannot be carried out without involving your local council, but you may still DIY. "

I stand well corrected Mr Gusmac sir!

I was running on articles that were in the press at the time the new regs were introduced, but after the posts on here, I looked it up on the 'net, & you are 100% right.

All of which means that I can get on with the minor electrical work in my house that I had put off thinking I should call a sparky in.

In our conditions it states that a towed trailer must be submitted for inspection and be plated.

lets be fair, your avg council bod wont know which is the front end, never mind how to read a chassis plate
