Ive tested out their Taxiquoter site and put in a Spurious Quote question...A run from Newcastle to Near Berwick, A round trip distance of around 120 miles.. Taxiquoters Best quoted price was around £75.00....very cheap I thought. the odd thing was the Taxi was going to be from a Keswick, Cumbria company who would need to do a round trip of around 250 miles..no way for 75 quid..

They even quoted a Manchester based Company as offering a price of £116.00 for the same run.

And that's where Mr Bloodnock's spurious quote comes in;

So what's probably happened on your spurious quote is that Taxiquoter have matched up where you wanted to travel from i.e. Newcastle with the Keswick company's vehicle that was dropping a fare in Newcastle at about the same time that you wanted your spurious quote to be picked up, which they quoted at £75 as the car from Keswick was already going to be in that area at the right time, & the alternative was the Manchester based company at £116 that were also probably dropping a fare in Newcastle at the same time you wanted your spurious quote to be picked up.

Obviously the Keswick & Manchester companies are both on board with Taxiquoter & have paid their £250 fee.

I have been pestered by a company called Taxiquoter, they say that for £250.00 i can have more work than i can handle...id be guranteed to make the £ 250.00 fees back within a fortnight from all the extra work theyed be sending my way. now heres the Rub, ive tested out their Taxiquoter site and put in a Spurious Quote question...A run from Newcastle to Near Berwick, A round trip distance of around 120 miles.. Anyone had any dealings with these people..are they Hooky or just Naive??

The company or whoever it is may be registered in those areas but who knows where the hackney carriage vehicle might be? It could even be possible but highly unlikely that the Keswick firm is registered in Keswick but has the bulk of its private hire drivers operating legally out of Newcastle.

In reality I am as mystified as you at the low quotes and the location of the companies but if they are correct then there may well be a plausible explanation.

I enquired with one of the Firms they use, nice people they seem to...its an interesting reply. ive hid some of the Detail in order to protect there Identity but its a genuine reponse.

hi

thanks for your enquiry. we are having major probs with taxi quoter at the moment.

We travel to major airports from keswick and ***** *****. it is 90 miles to get to newcastle so you are correct in querying the price. it would not be worth our while travelling all the way to newcastle to start the journey, sorry.

taxi quoter only calculates the miles from newc to ********.

we would have to calculate at least another 90 miles on top of that. which would make the minimum cost around £183.00.

I would be careful that there are no hidden surcharges if you were to use a cheap firm from manchester. once they get up here they could try to charge you extra.

the problem is they are undercutting good operators and we have to do our jobs at silly prices to compete.

Sorry to go into detail. we are trying to dis associate ourselves from taxiquoter

yours withheld

so which sites are "hotshot" outbound load query sites, and which are back loading, trying to get empty vehicles jobs, which in the current high fuel price+global warming times we live in should be a priority....

has anyone got any sites worth joining?

Just been contacted by them, they quoted an impressive list of corporate clients and offered 12 months for £349.00 or 6 months for £199.00, no mention of £250.00!

Well done for taking the time to gather further information on this issue. The prices quoted did seem out of step with reality.

Checked their website, they are also doing a "text a taxi" for £1.50 + standard rate, what happens if you text your area and they can't provide a local firm, sounds like a waste of £1.50 (plus standard rate) to me. I get the impression they are out to make a fast buck!

I think we all can boast an Impressive client list....it doesnt mean that the Clients were all necessarily Impressed, Ive had Clients working for the government on lots of occasions..but if i was to be more Precise id say they were Bin men, policemen and nurses. its all a matter of how you perceive things.

i can understand the problem they have, IF they have clients.

basically national coverage from day one with a limited number of members is always going to be difficult, ive been in the courier industry for several years utilising quite a few freight exchange sites, where i could put a job on, that job goes out by text alert to members based near the job OR returning empty past the pickup, and they could ring me to bid on the job

but with rates of 85p per loaded mile for a 4.2mtr sprinter hotshot, and 50p for a backload, all paid on account with 30-60 days payments it became untenable, since then amtrak went bust, and so will many others.

I have been a member of taxiquoter.co.uk for around six months now and have generating a good response from the membership. It generates me between 3-5 bookings per week mainly Airport Transfers.

I guess you have to manage your account properly to get the best response but to be honest once you have set your rates you do get pleanty of good enquiries coming through.

They have just launched Betterfares.co.uk a spin off from taxiquoter.co.uk which is free to get listed if you are a member of taxiquoter.co.uk also as I have minibuse they give me work from nationalminibushire.co.uk aswell

overall a good investment :D

Do we really want customers to save £10 million on our backs? :?
