How fair is it when the LA makes some license a WAV and allows others to license luxury saloons?

I like the idea of a mixed fleet to suit all customer needs and wants. What I don't like are taxi drivers so stuck in the last century they don't care about the customer or their choice. We have mixed fleets on our private hire systems, but, when I phone them and ask for a saloon I want a saloon, it's my choice I'm paying. Simples

Who said anything about phoning?
I'm talking about a TAXI rank.

bunch of moaners

if you had a kebab shop in a street with 4 others punters could choose which to use, if there are 8 prossies the punter chooses, so why should hacks be any different?

the guy at the front may not like it but if i got the cold shoulder from a car at the back id ring a PH to pick me up in full view of the lot of em

typical 1890's thinking, and you wonder why the "trade" is in the state its in?

and then ive been a hack, ive been in the office when jobs come in and the 1st on the rank got the £2 2nd job and the 2nd car got the £20 airport run cos the op was buffering jobs

OH YES IT HAPPENS...............PMSL

Using your example I suppose if there was a queue of punters at one of your 8 Kebab shops, with your reasoning its OK for one latecomer to join the queue at the front if he can elbow enough?

I was just using it as an example of customer choice ffs. We're 100% WAV here so the ph firms get quite a lot of work because people prefer the saloons

So you think it ok to discriminate on the type or colour of the vehicle?
What about the type or colour of the driver? or the gender? is that ok too?
The customer is paying after all

I think it's certainly ok to ask for a saloon/WAV but I do think you're being a little silly when it comes to colour of the vehicle. Also as a female I think it's ok to ask for a female driver if one is available. I don't actually care about the colour of the driver so long as they can get me to where I want to go :D

From experience, there are plenty of silly people about. When I worked the radio in a busy office, I had requests for white cars from people going to weddings and black ones for funerals. Were they being silly?

You would though.
Now is it ok to ask for a male driver?
Some people think women are abysmal drivers

Forget about you for a minute. Not everyone takes the same view.
Is it ok for someone to request a white driver?

Not necessarily being silly but unless it's pre arranged they may well be disappointed

I've never asked for a female driver and hopefully I'll never feel the need to. I guess it's just as ok to ask for a male driver if the request is for genuine reasons and not just sexiest reasons. I'm sure some people do think woman are abysmal drivers, the same people probably think men in flat caps are also abysmal drivers

I'm sure not everybody does take the same view and if you want a different view then ask a different person. My opinion is it's not ok

What would you consider a genuine reason for requesting a male driver?

Some might consider asking for a female driver, due to an irrational fear of rape/sexual assault, as being sexist.

I say irrational, since the chances of this happening are minuscule.

Strange also how many women asking for a female driver would drop the request and take any cab when told it could be some time before one was available or that we didn't have one on duty.
Does a genuine fear vanish when it's busy?

An irrational fear of rape/sexual assault could also result in a request for a white driver, or an elderly one, if a female driver was not available.
Reading the press or TDO, one could easily conclude that non-white males, under a certain age, are more likely to commit such offences.
Still think it's not ok?
