they dont have to stop you, they just need to catch you smoking in your car and bang!

I think you mean "click" because if they dont have a pic showing you smoking, and your vehicle reg/plate number in that pic then they've got a job on their hands.
If you think about it, if you cant wait for a cig for a few mins until you stop and get out, then youve got bigger things to worry about than some jobsworth creeping up on you.

First they came for the motorcyclists ( crash helmet laws ) and I did not speak out because I am not a motorcyclist.
Then they came for the car drivers ( seat belt laws ) and I did not speak out because I am not a car driver.
Then they came for the football fans ( terraces ) and I did not speak out because I am not a football fan.
Then they came for the fox hunters and I did not speak out because I am not a fox hunter.
Then they came for the smokers and I did not speak out because I am not a smoker.
When they came for me there was no one left to speak out for me.

Point is you should be concerned about the ban whether or not you are a smoker because it is the latest in a long line of attacks on our liberties.

To those who harp on about freedom not to be exposed to smoke that argument does not hold water as no one is suggesting that it be made compulsory to go to places where there are smokers. I think any business should have the right to allow smokers and everyone should have the right to not patronise those businesses.

Are you saying that the wearing of crash helmets does not save lives?
Are you saying that the wearing of seat belts does not save lives?
Are you saying that having all seater stadiums does not avoid the crushes that happened at places like Hillsborough and thus saves lives?

If you believe all these then you are a total prat.

History has proven that these measures have saved thousands of lives.

Grandad its the principal that i personally disagree with, yes you have a very valid point all those things DO save lives, but i think the point of this post is how far are the government going to go with taking away our civil liberties and thats the bit that i applaud as he clearly has pointed this out also, they gonna stop you drinking next as that can cause liver failure, they gonna stop you crossing the road unless you use a pedestrian crossing as you could get knocked over and lose your life, both of these would save lives too, And just how many of us would stop drinking hey and how many livelihoods would that ruin?? YOU DONT THINK IT CAN HAPPEN????? how far do you go with saving lives before we become run by dictators, and look at what we did in IRAQ because of their dictatorship, food for thought thats all fella

Thousands die on our roads each year grandad. Should they ban driving next?
Drink kills thousands annually, and causes untold misey and suffering. Should they outlaw alchohol?
Next time it could be you

Well we could of course always vote this lot out next time. Or vote in a new lot to change the laws back.

Or maybe it's a case of the smoking ban being supported by a large majority of folks.

When you are dead, you don't need many civil liberties.

There were many arguments that could have been put forward to support the view that the smoking ban is bad but Bart chose to use those particular arguments. This is why any argument against laws falls down. If you are going to raise objections at least use some examples of laws that haven't worked and not the ones that have.

Not saying they don't save lives at all. What I am saying is that if I choose to take a risk with MY life then I should have that right.
