Personally im a fan, we often get calls for out of area pickup's,

So we will call you area C, and your area next door B.

You have very high standards of drivers and vehicle, alas B allow sheds and drivers without a sound knowledge of the area.

You charge £2.00 mile, yet B cars only charge £1.20 a mile cos they have an endless supply of drivers looking for work, and run heaps of sh**.

A firm from B opens an office next door to you. Still in favour? :?

If they open an office next door to me then the office would need an operators license and planning, so it no longer becomes cross border, or am i missing something here?

It appears to me that in the example that you gave you are simply talking about local competition....that's a whole different ball game, competition is a good thing, keeps you on your toes and often forces you to up your own game in order to survive.

Cross border hiring 7.2 Taxis can take passengers from within their licensed area to other LAs but cannot accept bookings for passengers or ply for hire outside the area in which they are licensed. PHVs can take passengers from any point to any other providing the PHV driver, vehicle and operator are licensed in the same area. We believe that the current position on cross border hiring adversely affects consumers and drivers to a limited extent but accept that local licensing and enforcement procedures make cross border hiring difficult to implement.

so it must be....

My understanding of cross border hiring was company A taking a booking in area B and passing it, across the border, to company B. I believe there was a case about this somewhere around Beverley, Yorks(?)

I stand to be corrected if I have misunderstood the situation.

thats sub-contracting

That is correct

PHVs can take passengers from any point to any other providing the PHV driver, vehicle and operator are licensed in the same area. According to the Cross border hiring statement you should make immediate cut backs....The problem is that this ruling isn't policed so everyone just does it.

More factually incorrect sh*t from the OFT report?

Where's the surprise?
