Argentina had six weeks to leave the Falklands while the task force was assembled and made it's way down there.

With respect, what sort of reaction would there have been to 'oh please, leave my islands?' They would still be there now, IMHO.

Yeah I see your point, delayed action could've seen many a scenario played out, today a force of many countries would remove them as a HR issue, back then it wasn't like that.

what, like we could depend on france and germany (and russia) to help in Iraq and GW1?

rather than have the Arg removed by local ppl

So you are saying you think the invading army of a whole country should have been removed by 30 marines and a hand full of sheep farmers?

She did something in '82 that Prime Ministers have been trying to copy ever since! And she had the backing of the country something lacking by this bunch.

We are now bogged down in Afghanistan with no real objective in sight. The mighty Russia couldn't sort them out how the F does anyone think we can?

Not by force, by way of their will backed up by something like Nato, only it didn't exist back then like it does now, as for the Iraq/Afg thing you're correct 100%, which explains my point, don't start a war unless you are prepared to fight in it at the front, as for the Falklands, you'll just have to excuse me on that one, right or wrong I'm just still a bit sore on how Mrs T used to report to the nation on how "WE" had done this and that, when all she'd done was had a nice dinner in a warm house in London, Yomper and the boys did the doings, not an MP/PM, and it's always rankled me ever since.

Yomper is on Eastney seafront btw, it's the nickname for the unknown marine with the flag.

Relax, it's all in the history book now and can't be changed, my original point was how Mrs T used to act as judge jury and executioner on almost everything.

In todays world, the world would take the view that the Arg would be invaders and they'd be under pressure to leave asap, as the island is 500 miles away from them and they have no right to be there, the Falklands belongs to the Falklands ppl, they love us and they want us to mind over them, that is their will and the world is now well aware of that, back in 82 most ppl thought it was in the North Sea including me.
