Horses for courses I guess, I prefer to provide a better service than just pick up and drop off and I select drivers that also wish to provide a better service too, it pays to care

Attending a course, getting a tick in the box or a piece of paper is all cobblers. If a driver is helpful, a course will make him or her more helpful? If he or she is rude to passengers, will a course cure the situation?

These courses, without exception do only two things. First, they make Councillors feel smug. Second, they provide a massive income to bureaucrats who set up the training provision companies and a very good living for the "Instructors". They achieve nothing except to empty the pockets of Taxi and PH Drivers.

There is only ONE WAY currently to improve the quality of Drivers. Mystery Shoppers / Test Purchase, you then find a way to reprimand the bad (Stick), reward the good (Carrot). This could be conducted generally by LA's and separately if they want by Operators.

In the longer term, if CCTV became mandatory, a review of the films would negate the need for test purchasing, but only if this use of the equipment was allowed.

Some of us provide an excellent service but have never done even one of the courses (and never will).
