Apparently once the new system is installed it will no longer be possible to reject customer assistance in the job options.

What about the disabled driver who works heathrow, he is in a wheelchair, how the hell can he help people, even with just their luggage. PC gone mad? When the Insurence covers me for helping people, then I will gladly help. |

I only accept accompanied wheel chairs passengers after suffering a bad injury helping the 23 stone, chairman of the wheelchair users association in to my cab, in 98. when I tried to claim under my LTDA policy I was told I was not covered as a helper. |

PROVIDING a "WAV" is one thing, and doesnt infer the driver will do any pushing. |

I have no problem with helping a wheelchair user in and out of my cab. It's pushing him around Tesco's whilst he does his shopping that I object to. |

when you hurt your back, or anything goes awry with loading/unloading and you take a hit on uour public insurance you will think different you do have public insurance i take it? |

Acceptable risk, If there is one thing that annoys me more than all this politacaly correct DDA etc stuff its our health and safety culture. If we didn't accept risk we would never do anything. As for Public Insurance I doubt it unless it's included in my Hackney Carrage policy. I have never purchased any form of Insurance that I didn't have to by law, or condition of my mortgage. |

Can't you get whinches or something like that to help load wheelchairs into WAVs so the driver doesn't have to push thus reducing the risk of injury to the drivers back or is that some unexplained dream I was having

wheelchairs dont belong in cars, its as simple as that even ambulance services struggle to oblige, rear loading ramps, winches, a multitude of straps and its still not a stable seat the prime movers in the wheelchair debate now want forward facing fixings and access for some odd and unusual powered wheelchairs, where do you draw the line? the smallest vehicle carrying a wheelchair sould be a MWB med-roof transit with rear loading ramps, winch and straps, and maybe 4 other seats, anything else is a design disaster |
