What would you do in this situation.
My wife and I went into town last night for a drink. At 10:15 we decided to go home and we took a taxi. Now the driver of this taxi knows that I also run taxis. The journey is 0.8 of a mile and should have cost £2.90. The driver did not use the meter and charged me £3.80. This was a hackney carriage off the rank. Would you,
a: have a word with the driver regarding using the meter and charging?
b: report him to the enforcement officer for failing to use the meter?
c: do nothing but tell everyone about him overcharging?

usually when a hack or PH get into my taxi, as they know the fare even without a meter they give you well over the odds, i think the onus should have been on you to say to the driver "here's a fiver mate keep the change,

as for the enforcement bit, over the top i think

What I can't understand is that this is actually the 3rd owner driver to do this to me in about 6 weeks. Now they all know who I am yet are prepared to break the rules by not using the meter and overcharging, if they will do this to me, what are they prepared to do to ordinary punters who probably don't know how to work the fares out? We also had a tariff increase on December 1st.

Why not say to him at the beginning of the journey 'put your meter on, I'm not expecting a free ride.'

I think we could go to our LO and mention 'suspcions' and she'd put it in the next newsletter. Thereafter, they have been warned!!

After new year when customers are thin on the ground I might use all the difforent companys and make a dossier out of the ones that don't use the meter and overcharge. Maybe the council will then take action and I will be the only one left on the street. Ha ha, world domination. Mind you I doubt my cars would last long!

This seems like a sensible suggestion to me alternatively you could always drop into the conversation how you keep getting ripped off by fellow drivers then say something like "I wouldn't mind so much but I always pay over the odds anyway" unless of course you don't and you're one of those to the penny payers
