Taxi vehicle licensing Can I use my own car as a Private Hire or Hackney Carriage Vehicle? You can use a vehicle that has been approved as suitable for the purpose of being licensed as a Private Hire or Hackney Carriage Vehicle. In addition, Hackney Carriage Vehicles must also be wheelchair compliant i.e. the vehicle must be able to safely secure a wheelchair and its occupant. Quote: The Council currently restricts licensed Hackney Carriage Vehicles to 187. The only way, therefore, to obtain a licensed Hackney Carriage Vehicle would be to buy one off an existing owner and transfer the licence into your name. You would then have to make application to become a licensed driver (if not already completed).

The council are telling prospective plate owners to buy a plate and transfer it into their name. A practice that is supposed to be illegal. |

The plates are supposed to belong to the council, and are not to be traded in the manner they are stating. They should be handed back to the council for re issue, as they still restrict numbers, the plate could actually be given to the next applicant on there list, without the next applicant having to pay an arm and a leg for the privilege |

Yes I get the judgment in that case, as the new owner bought the cabs. What Preston council insist on , is if a person wants to put a cab on they must buy the vehicle and plate as one, thats the extortion part. What if the person has already bought a vehicle and only requires the plate?????? The plate belongs to the council does it not??? and should not be sold for gain |
