Well thats me finished for Christmas, it's going to be an interesting 2009 for many parts of the country including London. 8-[

All I can say from my observations it's no where near as bad as I remember the 1992-3 period. Will it get to that stage? Who knows, we do have about another 8 million people in the country since then, plus about 10 years of growth and money to see us through . . . so here's hoping.

Anyhow, Merry Christmas to one and all no matter how our opinions on here may differ.

Have a good one mate and don't spend all the money you've earned :D :D As for the recession I'm the same as you it's not nearly as bad as the late 80's / early 90's, I still think we've got a bit to go before we hit the full recession syndrome then the big long slog is ahead of us trying to get out of it.

Merry Christmas to one and all!!!

Agree with the above sentiments, though i wasn't a cabbie in the early nineties i know quite a few who were and they all say the same thing; they were working long days and sometimes lucky to get one job an hour!! Things have been very quiet in town but yet i've still managed to get the money i've needed albeit by having to do an extra hour or 3 each night......no big deal if that is all that is required but i do fear a little for 2009, the stage seems set for a very quiet year with a great deal of uncertaintly but i guess we have no real choice but to knuckle down for the ride and get through it the best we can.....................

With that in mind i wish you all the best of luck for 2009 and whilst as rightly pointed out we all have differing opinions regards our respective industries no one can argue that we are not passionate about our vocations and that is what will pull us through the lean times ahead!

You all have a real great Christmas, eat, drink and be merry!!!

How the other half live!
I'm working this week including Christmas day.
Over the years I've seen more and more shops open in London (for example Arab estate agents open in Edgeware Road - wonder if Christian estate agents [there must be some...] are allowed top open in Muslin counties in their religious days?) with more and more taxis and minicabs working.
I'll let you know what Christmas is like in the workhouse (London) later.
Can't say I'm expecting much...

I don't think Mon - Wed next week will be worth it?

I've heard Christmas day can be quite lucrative as there is no public transport apart from us, but I'm still not coming out! :D

I have to thank GBC for starting this thread, a touch of innovation.
