Here's a tip, don't turn right into Oxford Street from there, even though like me you thought the old 'taxi allowed' sign had merely not been replaced. £60 later . . . FFS.

Come on GBC, i expected better from you!! Perhaps you should read the trade papers from time to time
To be fair the council played a rather nasty trick on us with Rathbone place a few years back! They initially only had it for taxis to turn right and put up a small sign saying so........they then changed the ruling on it and made it no right turn for anyone and began nicking taxis (i remember when working days there was always a copper on a bike parked up ready for the nick) but the sign saying "except taxis" was still in place a few yards back from the lights so i imagine the fines were contested and ruled unlawful. A short while later a new sign was put up permitting us once again to turn right out of Rathbone place and stayed in place for a good year to 18 months before once again they deemed it unlawful to do the right turn but this time they removed the sign. Since then i think the junction has been under camera observation, either by the smart car or else by one of the high level cameras. As a traffic measure it makes no sense to have this in place, all i and many other drivers now do is turn left into Oxford St, then pull a U-turn once the lights have changed to green, this generally causes more traffic as the other vehicles turning out of Rathbone place are forced to wait whilst i complete the turn! A friend works as a manager at the Post Office and always has a dig about how many of his drivers moan about us pulling this stunt as it holds them up!! I've told him to write to the council and try and get them to see sense and reinstate the right turn............instead i'm sure we shall see a NO U-TURN sign go up I don't suppose you can even argue the case against it as it's clearly marked as a no right turn...........one down to bitter experience sadly! |

If you haven't paid it yet, post a topic on www.pepipoo.com If there are holes in the legality of the ticket, they'll soon find them for you. |

I'm going to chase it up with the LTDA on Monday to see if the original traffic order still stands or if it was amended. |

Apparantly I can! After taking some legal advice from the team at the LTDA I'm appealing the PCN.
If any other London driver has fallen foul of this particular junction contact your association or me via a PM. It's not a 100% guarantee, but I'm now confident about fighting it. |

If everyone thought like that the councils would get away with murder! You only have to go to pepipoo to see the mistakes the council make. |

acabbie, you cant get caught out,the sign say`s no right turn. Has done for the last year or so. Did GBC not wonder why he was the only cab turning right? did he not see the other cabs turning left and then immediately doing a u turn. |

I agree wholeheartedly with what you say, i too have seen the sign come and go over the last few years but if there is anything that perhaps lead to the banned right turn being illegal then it's worth pursuing......it's amazing how many times councils fail to update legislation or paint the wrong lines on parking bays which can lead to fines being refunded................think back to when Upper Thames St had the 20mph zone and was camera enforced; because of bad signage a heck of a lot of drivers had their fines refunded and the points removed from their licences. I say good luck but don't raise your hopes........

Little wonder the PH trade are taking the p*ss out of the cab trade in London.....you people despise each other as much as you despise them. CC |
