whats the going rate for a contract school escort these days, do educations insist on them being CRB checked? (wife is just by chance)

This is a very interesting point to me.
I have recently missed out on a contract that needed an escort. I have had the following conversation with the transport team at our county hall. ME "it is impossible for the company that you have given the job to, to be paying the minimum wage to both the driver and escort for that price."
Transport officer "maybe they are using their wife to do the escorting for pin money."
ME "So you are happy for them to be breaking the law by paying below the minimum wage?
Transport officer " It is not down to me to say how they run their bussiness."
The CRB issue was a bone of contention as well. I was asked to provide an escort on another job but I didn't have anyone available that had been CRB checked. I was told "If we wait for everyone to get a CRB check done, we will never cover all the jobs. Providing they have sent in the form it will be ok."

Is having an enhanced CRB checked Escort part of the contract? Cos if it is then it doesn't matter how long it takes.

As for the initial question, most firms pay min wage.

Yes having an enhanced CRB check is a requirement for the job. It seems to me that all the county council is interested in is the cheapest price. I see loads of unlicensed cars picking up on school contracts. It realy pi55es me off.

Perhaps there is a story there somewhere but I was under the impression the council provided the escorts.

Our Council issue a blue badge to all school contract drivers and escorts that we have to wear on the contract (and they do check). I pay one escort £10 a day for doing a 15 min each way job and £20 a day for a 30 min each way job, i just add the wages onto the price plus £5 extra.

Escorts here are usually provided by whoever gets the contract.

Not here..Council supplys them and they get picked up before and dropped off after their Special needs passengers have been dropped off...nowt to do with the Contracted Taxi or PH who charge per whole trip including pick up and drop off of the Escort..

It is your councils responsibility to provide check and pay the escorts, not yours.
When you put in for a contract that requires an escort, always price it for the whole journey including the pick up and drop off of the escort

It depends on the contract and whats written in it.

CC regardless of whats written its the councils responsibility to supply a fully checked and trained escort if one is required, especially for special needs kids.
Any council that insists that the taxi or PH company pay and supply the escort is wrong or are trying to get out of there responsibilities
Our council even supply the booster seats free, required for kids under 12 and they must be used

Utter rubbish.

The council could stipulate the escort supplied as part of the contract has a CRB check via them.

The above aside, these school contracts should return to local authorities with vehicles drivers and escorts provided by local authorities. (is that controversial?)

This is the same here and the providers of the transport that are not taxis have to go through the same process as a taxi driver but for a green plate which excludes them from PH taxi work. The green plate has only just been introduced and is not applicable if you have a HC/PH plate on the vehicle
