is it legal for a driver to book a job over the radio with the office and would this be classed as an advance booking or does it have to be by phone?

we are told by our LA that only telephone bookings are allowed and yet they allow another local firm to use a PDA to make bookings surely its the same as using your radio as long as the office have it booked?

There is nothing to stop you shouting a booking in as long as you dont take the punter there and then, unless the office gives you the run a few mins later

The way I see it is pre-booked means pre-booked, be that a month or a second.

So I'm of the opinion that a driver can call in a job, and if the same driver is top of the tree then there's not legal reason why he can't take that job.

Of course drivers doing that might need to consider whether they could be viewed as plying, but apart from that. :?

Your LA is wrong, ask them where in any act it says that. Methinks they are making it up as they go along. ](*,)

Don't agree.

That basically means the driver can pick up whoever and wherever he wants as long as he says "well we booked it via the radio"

Our LA wouldn't allow us to book via the radio. If we were caught they would say we were pirating. Lots of people ask me to book through the radio I tend not to do it and tell them to phone. I have occasionally but only once I have my booked fare in the car and then there is no chance I'll get the job, but, I don't like doin it

I don't think there is anything wrong with that particular scenerio. I think the problem arises when somebody approaches your vehicle while you are waiting to pick up and asks you to book them a car for there and then, that is a little suspect to say the least

To me, pre booked means through the office, either by phone, fax, email or calling in. If someone approached me in the street I would just give them the number and request they ring it. Not that it is usually a problem because if I am out on the street I would be in a Hackney.

this is where we differ in that calls to my landline DO do just that..i.e. go through the office, it rings here then diverts....

Well everybody knows down ladbrook grove
You have to leap across the street
You can lose your life under a taxi cab
You gotta have eyes in your feet

You find a nice soft corner and you sit right down
Take up your guitar and play
But then the law man comes says move along
So you move along all day

Well Im a one man band
Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
With my one man band
