ON Friday the 23rd of jan i was waiting for a fare at Dundee station ,i had been working for about 9 hours and was having a real pour night when a young lad approached me and ask if i could take him to Edinburgh he had mist the last train. He accepted my Quote but said his mother would pay at other end.As i was having a pour night i broke the golden rule never go out of town till you get the money up front. When we arrived at Edinburgh the young lad said i will phone my mother to come down to pay you.As we sat for a few minutes things began to feel not right.Next 2 hooded youths came out from block of flats, they did not come directly to cab but next thing i see another youth approach from other side at this time i floor it but as i was in a car park had to go out the way the youths were one youth stood in front of exit with shopping trolley over his head.I made a split decision i was not going to stop and drove straight at him he jumped out of the way but throw trolley at taxi causing some damage. The young lad was still in the back,i phoned police and they arrested youth in the back of car as they said he had set me up.They told me his mother did not stay there. The police are still investigating and have cctv of incident. So if like the Taxi drivers in Dundee you are finding it hard to make a living please put your safety first and don,t do what i stupidly done ,broke one of the golden rules.

I hate to say it but with British Justice I could well see you being up on a charge for driving your cab at him.

You know it was self defence, I know it was self defence but the law is an ass

I'm amazed the scum in your cab didn't try and do a runner. But thank the Lord you are not dead, and the police have some evidence to follow up. [-o<

Please keep us updated, and thank f*** for CCTV.

I'm pleased you escaped this ordeal relatively unharmed.

If I was tempted to take such a job I would have phoned his mum to confirm payment, however perhaps there was every possibility that his mother might have also donned hood and tried to mug you. lol

Regards

Its Easy done..I got stung after a run Booked by a police officer for a young girl that got stranded at the Local police station....after a 70mile journey she went to get the money at what she said was her mums flat..never appeared again..luckily the policeman had all her details..no brain no pain some of these Idiots... luckily I got paid a few days later...

theres no lesson like a hard lesson to drive things home..

Jesus mate thank god your OK, I remember getting stung on a job to Lowestoft some years ago, he told me he worked on the fishing boats, he talked the talk all the way down there, I had no reason to doubt him.

When we got there he said I've got to nip and get the money off my boss, he gave me his number and went into this pub, I waited 5 minutes then the idiot light came on, I'd been done well and truly.

I went into the pub to find it was empty, the chap behind the bar asked me what I wanted? I said that guy who's just come in. He said he asked him if he could use the toilet? The landlord said he went out of the back door when he'd finished in the toilet.

All the way back home I was kicking myself for taking a hit like that. When people come to the car now asking to go out of town it's £££ up front no questions asked.

I think that we have all been there on one scale or another, I ran pubs for 25years and thought I had seen it all in that game. But! wrong again and I soon found new low life's that I never thought existed.

I had a copper come up to me a week last Saturday with three lads/young men who claimed that a taxi driver had taken twenty pounds off of them and that they had no money to get home - we have checked them out and have their details will I take them!, now the fare concerned is in the region of £45/50 so how come three guys have no money between them -the answer was NO, explaining that the office will not let me take a fare out of the area unless we have money up front - OK so I do not belong to an office, but who needs hassle and the possibility of still not getting ones money OR do you think that you could make the 22/25 mile journey back tomorrow to get your money except that I am only paying for the one fare.

At times I feel awkward asking for the money up front because in essence you are telling the person concerned that you do not trust them - so just explain that the office insists upon it and if they find out you have been doing it without the money up front they will take your data base off of you - yes I know that it is a lie but it is a small one and it will save you a lot of grief, oh and money as well.
