We've got a bit of an issue in our manor, the Council have closed our rank so they can re-surface the road, it's going to be closed for 3 weeks because Nottinghamshire County Council want to dig the bus station up as well as re-surface it.

Anyway the Council have told us to park in front of ASDA and Iceland, this is a temporary 24 hour rank until our main rank is finished, they've put it in the local paper in the public and legal section.

Today a clown from Excel parking who run the car park opposite Iceland threatend to clamp HC's that were parked on the rank outside ASDA and Iceland on the road, I went round to see him and ask him what was going on? He said he's been told by his head office to clamp any HC's that are waiting in front of Iceland. I asked him how could he clamp a HC that was waiting on a council approved rank? He didn't say anything to that all he said was that he's taking registration numbers to pass on to his head office so they could clamp the cars in the future.

Should have taken a photo so we could have awarded him 'Clown of the Year'.

Maybe the council could clamp him when he parks on your rank.

shouldnt the council have obtained some sort of temporary legistlation for the official rank and put notices up and in the local rag?

i know an "official" rank where, it turned out, anyone can park, its on private land and even cops cant move anyone on parking on it, damn but it LOOKS like a rank though

There's a sign outside saying 24 hour rank, it's all marked up with white lines etc etc.

Clamping is illegal. Council ranks will need a Traffic Regulation Order, I believe.

Sorry to keep referring to this site but it does have most of the answers we need regarding Parking and speeding:

www.pepipoo.com

Have a look at Excel, PPCs, Clamping and open your own thread in Parking regarding markings and formalities required for establishing ranks.

Don't get me started on this one. We have a rank that has white lines. It is enclosed with signs at the end saying taxis only. I got hit by a private car taking a short cut through the rank. By hit I mean I was run over not the car got hit. Who did the police investigate over the incident? The driver for driving down the rank and deliberatley driving at me (witnessed by 3 other taxi drivers) or me for causing damage to his car? Apparently the signs and lines mean nothing. Anyone can go down the rank and park on it.
