Big day today, going down the council yard at York what a sh*t hole, brand new tyres on me motor gotta go passed the council tip complete with big pot holes in the yard, bet I get pulled for a nail in me tyres, picked up from the council yard

The vehicle will be "inspected " by lawnmower fitters" it's ok, one chap took em to court [the council] that they were not qualified, but lost the case as the council said they only are inspecting the vehicle, not MOTing it

lot o Mercs on in York, big spate of bottom ball joints being pulled [you wanter see the lever bar they use], the lads used to wheel em in to Mercedes agent, "nothing wrong with the ball joint" within Mercedes tolerances, it has now stoppped since Mercedes sent them a letter

anyway I will be kind and speak properly whilst they inspect so shouldn't be a "failure"

if they are anything like Plymouth tester you should fly through!

i had mine spot checked 2 weeks ago by the council at the DOT station and was giving the all clear. that was good new for me as it was due for plating this week and i thought it would pass with only minor things to do.

got to the MOT station yesterday and it failed on lots, both wishbones gone, causing excess wear to both inside front tyres, both rear atit-roll bar link bushes gone. the MOT tester said theres no way the spot check tester should have missed those unless he had a white stick.

So they don't issue you with a MOT or Compliance Certificate? :?

I think they just look for bald tyres and blown bulbs. Anything else is far too confusing.

well yes and the two front tyres were well below legal on the inside edge. pee'd me off big time cos if the spot checker saw it at the time it would have all been done before the plate test instead of now having an unexpected £400 bill and two days off the road.

you would have thought that an hour long inspection would have been more involved than a 25 minute MOT.

i was going to make a complaint about the standard of testing, but that will just P them off and cause them to pull up other taxis for minor things in the future.

worn wishbones you get used to when your driving it all the time. if you were to jump in to my car you would have noticed it straight away, but as it goes over time you dont notice it. the tyres were worn on the inside edge due to the worn wishbone, looked fine from the outside, especially as they were only 3 months old.

again i dont know how the DOT examiner didnt see it as he was under the car for a good 15 minutes.

but all fixed now.

Bad news and good news

First the bad news, I failed the taxi test, couldn't get top light to work even with a new bulb, it has worked ok on my last motor
I also failed on having no seatbelt interior stickers, so they red stamped me, for quite awhile the council have been supplying these stickers, but have run out and can't get anymore, and the local motor shops don't do them now.

I was up for test at 1400hrs Friday, the time the inspection was over I didn't have time to go out looking or to do anything else, they was locking up at 1500hrs to go home

I said ok, gives us back me old plate and I'll run me old motor as it is still licenced, but they wouldn't :x

so for a top light fault and no stickers I've lost 400 quid or so

The good news is I have had a relaxing weekend and getting fully recharged

keep pressing those meter buttons.

The Mondeo wishbones are the worst thing about it in my opinion.

Mine's is tested twice a year (taxi and MOT) and I know the wishbones will need done each time.

But compared to some other motors, I'm quite happy to settle for that!!

Ridiculous.

In my manor unless the car is deemed unroadworthy, they let you run it until it's sorted.

I think this is too lenient, but on the other hand yours is way over the top Mr Highwayman.

By the way, what do you mean exactly by seatbelt stickers?

I think that apart from once or twice a year when we are council tested, that most of our cars will fail a council test. Even if it's only a bulb or scratch on the door. :-$

As for wish-bones and bushes, they are really hit and miss. You could get failed in one testing centre, and passed in another.

In my area we have about 6 places we can have a council test. One of them is about 50 miles away.
This is good but one of the existing ones is as bent as they come. A couple of the lads have taken there cars in. Walked down the raod to get a coffee, walked back and its all done and dusted.
Not really good but ..............................

Seatbelt stickers, warning signs to tell the customers to put seat belts on, one in the front, one in the back
