Our bylaws state:- " dogs carried at discretion of driver" and I'm talking pets not guide dogs. A fair enough bylaw then. Yesterday, I was second on the rank, when a lady approached the first cab and clearly asked, (because she had to shout, because the driver did not open his window!) "do you take dogs?" Now, it's a simple question, isn't it? The answer can only be (a) "Yes" or (b) "No" Those amongst you that are keeping up, will know what happened next. Well done, you. Yes the drivers answer to do you take dogs, was "where are you going?" "West Parade" was the answer, (£5 fare) "No, I don't take dogs," said Luigi Ziccardi, the driver. Funny that, if the job had been a longer one I'm guessing he would've took it. I take dogs but they sit in the front footwell. 'But he'll get squashed!' That's right, he won't be able to jump everywhere either. All the dog hairs will be in one place and I can see what's going on. If you don't like those conditions, go to the second car. |

Regards JD JD, I did not state at any time that I take all dogs. I accept that carrying dogs is discretionary, on the condition and behaviour of the dog, but not discretionary upon the distance of the job. Luigi (eets on the feckinna meeter) Ziccardi declined the job because it was for a short distance. He would have taken it had the job been out of the City, is my beef. I took the lady and her dog, and neither of them were unclean, or vermin riddled as far as I could tell, unlike your average 3am drunk. |

I accept you never said you take all dogs it was the above statement that prompted my assumption, considering that statement I think many people would infer that you do take all dogs. Leaving that aside I sympathise with your unfortunate encounter but as you rightly say the driver in front of you was just cherry picking. If he had a policy of not carrying dogs then the destination was immaterial. Regards JD |

I take dogs sometimes..though I wouldnt take Dogs at the weekends when the passengers are more dressed up...nor would I take dogs before any airport transfers or Business passengers simply because its not fair to have Dog hairs all over the place...and those hairs get eveywhere in some seat fabrics....hardly worth it as usually runs where dogs are concerned tend to be short ditance hops anyway.. Another Nuisance with dogs is that they cant say when they need to pee or throw up, some dogs get so excited they just P*ss anywhere and that really Smells... Some dog owners get shirty if you say no dogs...but its your vehicle not theirs that the dog Stinks out....that Dog might be the love of their life, it maybe the only family they have but as to me its no more than a Semi domesticated Wolf.... |

I think "Where are you going?" is a fair enough question. I don't usually take dogs because of the risk they might pee in my cab, for a £100 fare I would take that risk though. |

Perhaps the lady in question should have insisted on an answer to her question first before saying where she was going. That said, she should still report him since it still sounds like cherry picking. Your LO may agree. |

If he doesn't take dogs, he doesn't need to know where she is going. By asking where she was going then refusing, he is refusing the hire on destination, using the dog as an excuse. |
