Does anyone know what the procedure is for getting info under freedom of information act.I would like to get information on which drivers have been given badges when having convictions for serious offences.I recently read an article in the forum that gave this information about drivers in Newcastle. |

Just ask the drivers if they come from Balerno or Whitfield then make your own assumption

Your council will have a freedom of information (FOI) officer. Direct your questions to them and they will get the answers for you. I doubt if they will give you any personal information (Data Protection Act) but you should be able to get numbers and offences. Be specific what you ask for and ask to have the information broken down the way you want, as they won't volunteer anything you haven't actually requested. |

Go to your local council website and type in Freedom of Information Act in their search box. Then e-mail the address, but state you are asking (whatever you want) under the Freedom of Information Act. You must receive a reply within 20 working days. Be sensible with your questions. By that I mean ask for exact answers, thus leaving the council very little room to be vague.

Have you tried to elicit the information a little more informally? You may get a 'friendlier response than if you go straight in with FOI. Save the FOI as a last resort. |

That would be an interesting test. First ask them nicely and get what they want you to get, and then do a FoI request and get the truth.
