The York Taxi Association apparently had their A.G.M last night and it's all change, the old Secretary who has been there for the last 6 years was sent to Coventry by half the members for getting a part time job with the NVQ training firm, some of the less intelligent members are convinced he has changed sides and gone to work for the Council.His lady partner who was on the Committee for the last 15 years has also come in for the same treatment and gone as well,Straight in as their replacements are people who were Private Hire drivers but got issued with a free plate, and another who two years ago was quoted in the local press as campaigning for the Council to De-Regulate, the Chairman has also been ousted and the new brigade has promised to fight the Council on everything and anything that they consider un reasonable the Keep Left sign has a whole new meaning, watch this space.

It's shame they can't appreciate the benefits of a friendly face when it comes to assessment. I would prefer to be assessed by somebody I was familiar with than a total stranger. Friendly faces in the current NVQ scene are few and far between

Is de-reg on the agenda in York? It appears to me that perhaps there are more than just this chap who is in favour of de-reg in this association isn't it one member one vote and doesn't he have to be voted in

experience suggests if the assoc become militant then dereg will become a major issue in the near future.

A major issue for or against de-reg?

The association would be against deregulation i suspect....what the intelligent chap who has bought me beer in York did say was that the people now running the association in York....were granted free plates a short time ago....they have now taken over the association and very probably got that role by decrying the old committee.

If I was in their shoes I would leave that association, form another and choose another direction.
