| Post subject: | PRIVATE HIRE SIGNAGE |
The Dundee taxi trade are going to discuss private hire signage at a forthcoming liaison meeting. There are a number of phv that want to put the companies phone number along the side of there cars. The trade are against this.I would be interested to know what other cities allow there phv to display on there cars.If you could post what the signage says and also what town or city you work in i would much appreciate it. |

we have a rear plate, plus yellow stickers on rear doors "advance bookings only" rules say... Quote: 9.0. Advertising and Official Signs
9.1. All Private Hire Vehicles must display Private Hire Identification signs as supplied by the Council and shall ensure each is permanently affixed to both of the rear passenger doors of the vehicle aligned horizontally with the rear door handles and shall remain on display at all times. 9.2. These signs shall not be removed from the vehicle except with the approval of, or under the supervision of, an Authorised Officer of the Council or any Police Officer. 9.3. No words, letters or graphics may be displayed on the glazing of the vehicle. (Although the biggest firm in town thinks different) 9.4. The proprietor of the Private Hire vehicle may display on the vehicle the trading name and contact number of the operator to whom all advance bookings for this vehicle are taken. This is restricted to a single advertisement on the front passenger and drivers doors (if licensed for 8 seats then one rear panel) and to be contained within a border with a maximum size of 600mm in width and 300mm in height and for the bonnet and boot of the vehicle, a single advertisement of a maximum size of 600mm in width and 150mm in height to be agreed in advance in writing. 9.5. The words ‘taxi’ ‘taxis’, ‘cab’ or any words so closely resembling those words as to likely be mistaken for them are not to be displayed on or about any Private Hire vehicle and including on any sign or notice displayed on the vehicle or on any stationary or business cards. 9.6. No other material may be displayed on the outside of the vehicle without the written authorisation of the Council. as mine is a 7 passenger version of a normally 8 passenger Tourneo they didnt notice,,,,,lol |

Hard to distinguish PH from TAXI at first sight PH have yellow border on front and rear plates. yellow border on side window stickers. In contrast to the (mainly saloon car) general taxi fleet who have a blue border on the plates, oh and a roof sign (not standard size or colour) the lines are becoming increasingly blurred, (people carriers/doblos on PH plates), so I expect the cooncil to come up with some changes in the not too distant future. Any colour taxi you want, as long as it's black, perhaps? |

that's why I said Quote: oh and a roof sign (not standard size or colour)
what I meant was they are all sizes from about 4-6" up to 36" and not always lit. If a PH draws near the rank punters can be easily led to assume it's a taxi. plates, check, stickers, check, meter, check, shifty looking driver, check, yip it's a taxi, or is it?

We have orange plates front and back with door signs that have company name and number on them (that is PH) the HC are a variety of purpose built black hc with white plates front and back. Obvious difference, but, it doesn't stop people trying to flag the PH down |
