http://www.bordertelegraph.com/articles/1/38131/ Well it seems most taxis will have to give up as the councils daft idea of closing the clubs an hour earlier will kill trade There are 2 clubs here and the other one will be forced to do the same when its licence comes up for renewal in a months time

If so then if they go out an hour earlier then it shouldn't have an effect on the likes of you. And if loads of taxi drivers give up, is that a problem for your pocket?

We had the same problem with a club called Cayote Wild a few years ago, it was causing loads of trouble because of the underage drinkers they were letting in, the Police raided it one night and closed the lot down. It was closed for a good few months then the company who owned it went belly up. It's got new owners and a new age policy. |

The problem will be the pubs are licenced until 1AM so the punters wont pay a fiver just for 1 hour in a club People here only start to go out at around 10PM, as they have a good skin full of cheap drink from the supermarket. There has been a riot every year for as long as I have been driving taxis, when the clocks go forward, if the police had any sense they would turn a blind eye for the gained hour and there would not be any trouble |

One of our clubs in town lost it's 6am licence so now all the clubs close a 4am. It hasn't effected my income it just makes it quicker to earn. Same as when they first introduced the extended hours. There was no change to my income it just took a couple of hours longer to earn it. I also believe that if the club owners sold alcohol responsibly then there wouldn't be quite so many incidents. |
