Spain Taxi Driver Returns Billfold with $85,700 in Cash
August 16, 2009
MAHON, Spain – A taxi driver on the Mediterranean island of Menorca returned a billfold containing 60,000 euros ($85,700) in cash, which a passenger left inside the vehicle and which he has now recovered.
Municipal officials told Efe that when the passenger got out of the taxi, he left behind a leather billfold full of cash, checkbooks and business cards.
When the taxi driver noticed the oversight he finished driving his next passenger, then went to the police station in Mahon to hand over the billfold.
Collaboration between Spain’s National Police, to whom the lost billfold had been reported, and local police, who had it in their possession, led to the owner being located and having his money and documents returned.
Mahon city hall in the touristic Balearic Islands appreciated and thanked “the initiative and honesty of the taxi driver” and congratulated him “on his conduct.” EFE
