Here is a situation that is happening all too often, on the Station at York, station taxis have their booking office, if a customer walks in and makes an enquiry about a cab and it's a good job the staff say just wait at the red bench, which is a meeting point and they radio one of their cars, if it is a crap job they say just get in the first car on the rank, when we question this they say as soon as acustomer approaches their office it is their job and up to them how they issue it, I am suggesting to all drivers who read this forum, if you are first in the queue and a punter comes to you with a crap job from out of their office, send them back and don't take them.

Thats a decent suggestion, but if the driver refuses a fare does he not breach the 1847 act?

I would think that once a customer has approached a booking office then it's their job, unless the customer decides to take a waiting HC. I would also suggest that if you want to cut off your nose to spite your face and not take work that is up to you, but, as CC suggests the driver is likely in breach of the 1847 act. I don't think that cos a customer is not going far enough is a good enough reason not to take them and who knows the driver may get another job where they drop the customer off.

Can I ask how you know that all passengers waiting on the red bench are decent fares :?

If I worked there and now everyone knows, I would be over to the bench in a flash saying next please :D

I think this could be classed a cherry picking, not by the driver but by the office giving the best jobs to those who have the brownest nose

The office operator came screaming out of the office to inform me that a car was on its way for her, which lead to a discussion, and me being told as to the rule which I mentioned earlier, when anyone approaches the office it's their job to do as they like with

As your paying an already extortionate radio rent, its about time you all got together and remind them that as its your hard earned you can do with it as you like.
Remember they need you, and if you all stick together (hell may freeze over before that happens) they cannot cherry pick who does what job, 1st car, 1st job end of

Personally I'd make the customer as welcome as possible, I'd educate them that Greedy Cabs didn't want them and that you will provide a better non discriminating service anyway, let word of mouth do the work for you, nobody likes to be discarded as a unworthy when it comes to spending money, let their elitist attitude be their downfall.

Skip I think this is a matter of PH office on station versus HC on station. If the PH office doesn't consider the job worthy for their drivers the passenger is pointed in the direction of a HC on a rank :wink:

If they have accepted a job, via the punter walking into their office, then the contract is with them. It is not for them to sub-contract that job to you without your approval.

And I would put up a sign saying 10% cheaper than the office quote. :wink:

A better question is; Is there anything in the legislation that states that a booking office cannot refusing a crap hiring?

And I don't think there is; but I wait to be corrected Captain.

The other way to do it is to ask the 'red bench' customers how much they have been quoted & to a man undercut every single quote there & then by 10%.

How many customers would pay more & Staion Cars / Cabs would soon get a stuffing.

There isnt, but that isnt going to help the first cab on the rank who must accept the fare after its already been knocked back by the office.

I'm confused.

Not hard, I know.

But wasn't there another thread which was about ALL Taxis on York Station being members of the same company that had bid for the contract?

Has this now changed to a free for all permit scheme?
