Hi what do you think about this one.

All hell broke out this morning, one of my mates drivers got stopped at Heathrow, on his way into the terminal for a landing, no reason and this was at 05.00.

Cops at Heatrow don't normally get out and about till at least 0900.

Anyway they bretherlised him and guess what it was positive even though he swears the last drink he had was at 19.00 the night before, 10 hours earlier. He had a day off yeterday and spent most of it in the pub.

We covered his work eventually, I believe him about what time he finished drinking, why should he bother to lie about it.

I have to say I do not drink at all myself if I have an early shout, part of me thinks this one borders on unfair. But on the other hand I can not abide drinking and driving, I do feel sorry for the driver though just before christmans and he has a young family.

Goes to show you eh?

I'm not quite sure what you mean Eric - if he had had a bucketful and drover ten hours later then there's a good chance he'll be over the limit.

If I still drunk large quantities (it's rare nowadays), then I wouldn't drive for at least 12 hours.

In fact, I wouldn't drink large quantities at all unless I wasn't driving the next day, unless perhaps starting in the evening.

But I agree that it's terrible that police are so underhand about catching out lawbreakers these days. I say that if someone fails a breath test then they should be told to come back and try again after 24 hours. Same with speeding, if they are 'caught out' then they should be told to go back up the road and have another go.

Whatever next - soon they'll be catching out burglars and murderers and all sorts!!

1 unit of alcohol takes 1 hour to clear your body, a pint of beer is 2 points so if he's had 6 pints he shouldn't have been driving for at least 12 hours. His own fault.

Someone else told me that all alcohol regardless of the amount of units stays in the system for twelve hours.

This subject got all the guy's talking yesterday and one of them said if someones had a skinful, which we dont know this guy did, then he would not be fit to drive for 24 hours.

Glad I don't indulge, one less thing to worry about.

I think Nidge's figures are the 'guidelines' and it varies from person to person - 8 pints in a big lad like Nidge would presumably clear him a lot quicker than an 8 stone woman, for example.

But it could easily take more than 12 hours for it to clear, if you had 10 pints of lager (say).

I would say that if you have a bucketful then wait 18 hours - there's probably still a trace of alcohol, but probaly not enough breach the limits.

Let's face it, if you start at 6 until 2 (say) and get up at 12 the next day and you've had a bucketful, then you'll know that you still feel a bit drunk.

That's what I used to do in my younger days, and if I still did that I wouldn't even consider driving until late afternoon/early evening.

by the way why did this bloke realise he had a family when cought? surely he had one whilst drinking?

gawd if we all felt sorry for families the trade would never be safe!

if you drive for a living keep off the drink, that way you will be able to ply your trade for the family.

Ok so your right I can not stand drinking and driving as stated in the first post but yes I did feel sorry for him, but more for his family, my sympathies were as I suspected misplaced.

The other thing of course was the time thing, not being a drinker I had no idea the booze hung around for so long, yep he should have know better.
