Manchester United players are being treated for exhaustion after four hours of injury time in the derby match against Manchester City.

Furious Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson has demanded the referee blow for time for the sake of his players who have now played for five and a half hours in an enthralling match.

Michael Owen's winner six minutes into stoppage time had been expected to give Manchester United a dramatic victory in a classic encounter at Old Trafford.

But a quick word with the ref from City's owners Abu Dhabi Utd's accountant seems to have rejuvenated City players.

The referee, thought to have blown for full time, explained that he had in fact, blown for a throw in.

Since then the game has slowed to a virtual standstill as players are treated for cramp and hunger.

Earlier fans had enjoyed a seven goal thriller. But, in the latest of this week's news events to be remembered for all the wrong reasons and with a raft of stoppages for minor injuries, Horlicks and in order for the players to get their pyjamas on, the game will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
