Twitter set to rival black cabs on London streets

LONDON - The familiar cry of 'Taxi!' on London's streets could become a thing of the past, with the launch of a new Twitter booking service.

The new service - called greentomatocars - claims to be the first private hire service in the UK to take journey bookings via Twitter. The company's green credentials are based on using what it claims is the greenest car on the market, the Toyota Prius.

Bookings can be made by sending a direct or private message to greentomatocars outlining journey details. The company will then send a Tweet back, containing a unique booking reference confirming the booking.

The company also plans to use the micro-blogging service to encourage customers to participate in an online conversation around environmental issues.

Founder Tom Pakenham, said: "Twitter has become such a phenomenon and with so many people in London using it, we are delighted to be able to use Twitter to build a closer relationship with our customers and make booking a car simpler and easier than ever."

The launch is part of a growing trend towards companies offering last-minute bookings on Twitter.

Last week, a Twitter-based hotel booking engine launched called Inoqo giving members that chance to check-in within 48 hours and take advantage of special deals.

One passenger obviously.
I have been looking at the Toyota Prius for a while now and there is more legroom than your average saloon/hatch and there is quite a big boot. Most of our airport transfers are for only one or two passengers with hand luggage only so the Prius, or the Honda Civic Hybrid cars are great.

Why not get a proper car. A VW Golf Blue motion does more MPG than a prius & less to go wrong. The same car tax £35 per year. http://www.greencarsite.co.uk/CONGESTION-CHARGE-EXEMPT-CARS-LIST.htm

What is the leg room in the Golf compared to the Prius?

Personally I wouldnt offer a vehicle up to the public I wasnt comfortable getting and out of myself, too many cars today have swoopy designs but its a case of "form over function"

I always try rear seating first when buying a car now, i like the Ford Smax, good head/legroom

compare the previous mondeo with the vectra, those back windows tell it all...

You can not compare the mondeo with an mpv?? The new mondeo is wider than the older model and has a larger boot. It’s the same size as a Ford Scorpio. The boot has to be seen to be appreciated. :-o :-o

That image of the back of the Superb is very misleading. Just look at the length of the seats compared to the width of the seats. It has been tampered with.
