Just about jumped out my Skin tonight...I just noticed that Diesel at the local garage had jumped from £1.08.9 to £114.9 a litre, surely a 6 pence rise is more than just the VAT returning to 17.5% ? ....to my reckoning thats approximately 3 pence per litre over and above the Restoratation of the 17.5% Vat rate. Greedy Beggars..

I make it 1.112 if the VAT was the only increase on your price. But, my Shellcard price for next week is higher than this week's VAT hike, so I reckon there's some more general increases still in the system. |

I read a report somewhere that stated that the price is likely to get to £1.25 in the next couple of weeks. |

Not forgetting, of course, the imminent plummet of the pound if the markets don't like the parties' public spending pronouncements over the next couple of weeks. If public spending is not slashed, investors will move out of sterling. That will result in a fall of the pound against, amongst others, the dollar. As oil is priced in dollars, that will lead to further upward pressure on domestic fuel prices. [Note to self: Don't forget the benefits you gained from an LPG powered car a few years back!!] |

Bloods right I noticed as well, but here is the thing, when the Government reduced the rate last year, the only thing that was not reduced was vat on fuel, so how the hell have they managed to put it up |

The VAT was reduced on petrol, diesel and LPG to 15% the same as everything else. The duty on fuel was increased by the same ammount as the VAT was reduced at the same time so the cost of the fuel remained the same as it was. |

Businesses that are VAT registered found themselves paying more for their fuel back then. This increase will not affect VAT registered businesses because they will claim back the increase. |

talking of stealth, how about the latest one? If you are caught speeding or parked in the wrong place, you will have to pay an extra £15 on top of the fine for, wait for it, victim support. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/new ... harge.html Oh, and another thing in these times of megasiht (salt, grit, catlitter, whatever) on the roads, having dirty windows is also an offence on which the new levy will be collected, FFS. I sometimes wonder if being a motorist, never mind a taxi driver is worth it. |

If they can tell me whom I victimised by parking on a double yellow for a few minutes..well..I'll take the 15 Quid round to the Victim personally..

Unfortunatly that isn't how it works is it? The £15 surcharge goes into the big pot so that all victims of crime, if they can claim it, can have a share. |

We are all Victims...Victims of a criminally inept labour government, yet they take money from us their victims instead of paying us compensation for their dysfunctionality!!! |
