Reckless conduct??? What offence is that? Is it a traffic offence or a criminal offence or what? |

On a slightly different note, you may all have heard about the 4 brothers that fell through the ice on a lake in Leicester where 2 of them died a couple of days ago. Well it would seem that people still haven't learned because there have been some more incidents on the same ice. Some people are beyond belief. |

There was a year in the 1970's when the local river froze completely and the locals were able to walk on it about a 3/4 mile section there was someone who drove a mini onto the ice then (without disaster) there is always someone who tries to "ave a laugh" but is it an offence to drive a vehicle on a waterway or lake ? stupid yes but a criminal offence |

That is my, not very succinct, point: Why make criminals out of someone having some 'innocent' fun? 6th May is the concensus. Can't wait!!!!!! |

Not just for the people having the "fun" but the people that have to rescue them when things go wrong. Don't get me wrong, When I was a kid we used to have great fun playing on the local ponds when they were frozen and with me being the fattest of the lads I was the one that had to test the ice by jumping on it. And yes I did get wet a few times by going through fortunatly the local ponds were only about 3 feet deep. |

That said, unless there is more to this story (stolen vehicle/a previous history of such idiocy etc), then I agree that a "reckless conduct" charge seems harsh. A slap on the wrist, the public humiliation, payment of the costs to the emergency services...and the loss of their vehicle through negligence (probably invalidating any claim) would usually be sufficient punishment. As for the 6th May, are you referring to the (possible) general election? If so, I'm not sure there's much reason to be quite so excited. I have no love whatsoever for our current "torturers", but anyone with clear memories of what came before, could possibly have the following image in their minds... ...The "attacker", finally stops beating them with sticks and iron bars and leaves them half dead on the floor...only to be replaced by a different attacker, who is far more ruthless...and uses even more painful methods of torture. Of course, for some, this could be replaced by an entirely different image of "Last night of the Proms" (Land of Hope and Glory, Union Flags etc.). Probably one of those topics with no chance of agreement and so best left alone

I smiled at a report the other night that stated that if re-elected Gordon Brown will serve for a full term. That statement will probably cost him a few more seats. |
