Hi, I am Scottish Taxi Driver, i am in the process of doing a course at college regarding health and safety in taxi driving, it is a bit of a farce, but anyway, i am in need of some help. The help i am requiring is to do with black cabs, havent driven any so don't really know that much about them, when in a black cab would you lock the drivers area? I am hoping that someone out there will be able to give me some advice.

Thank You

I think it depends on the circumstances, what time you would be driving and where you are driving about, remember thats your space, personally I like to keep it that way, I would have thought that a health and safety course would cover this, or is it the usual nonsense which bears no resemblance to real life.

In a TX11 the front passenger area is for the luggage,so I see no problem with keeping the two front doors locked for safety reasons, especially in the evenings, when the idiots are out and about.
No set and fast rules, but this seems the logical thing to do.
In the E7,s,Eurobus etc, there is passenger seats in the front with the driver.
A few drivers I know, will not allow passengers to sit beside them, when doing night shift.
I would probably do that myself, again for safety reasons and also if a female passenger is on her own,in my saloon car,she must travel in the back of the cab.
The latter,to cover yourself in case of any false sexual complaints, but again this is just common sense.
Would like to know where your course is being held, never heard of a course being run for that.
If near where Sussex is based,he may want to join in.

Always mate, Always!

I keep the back doors locked as well on nights, until they speak to me and I establish they are not wrong'uns, they don't get in.

Now being careful who gets in may cost me a few fares and a loss of money, but it generally means i have trouble (and damage) free Friday and Saturday night shifts.
