Now that parcels are fundamentally all hub and spoke networks, are there any operators who franchise areas to taxi companies?

If not, have there been any attempts by taxi operators to provide a united national scheme to compete with the small van network?

TNT used to do it Andy but I think they have parcel hubs now though, we used to do TNT and Red Star.

I suspect the specialists have got it all boxed off :)

Maybe the specialists have. But even they get competition form other specialists, and I dont know of any specialists that have the power to drop a car on a pick-up with the speed of a taxi operation.

For example: how many cabs are there in any given area vis a vis parcels vans?

Andy,
I dont know if Frazer Eagle coaches from Accrington have an account with you or not, but its worth an approach to get them on board, they pay good money.

they do rescues for national coaches, get train passengers stranded home and by god using a national network they can get bus parts from anywhere to anywhere quickly.

they book a lot of taxis, just tell them the rail stations you are interested in thier computer does the rest!

They have had an account with us for 4 years, but never used us. We do work for the railway, but directly. Perhaps they are stronger up north. I know when I went to Stoke a year or so ago, that there were dozens of Frazer Eagle contractors at the station. Never seen any around here though.

Getting it off them is a different equation.

Nige

you are so negative you need to go on a sales course.

dont think of problems but challenges, look for income oportunities.

you lot spend so much time off rank you talk yourselves into a depression.

now try a couple of tricks

1 when you see a que at a bus stop, stop your taxi, lift your bonnet and tweek a few lines.

result? someone will come up to you and say hey mate have you time to take us to...............................................................................

2. if you see a packed takeaway, stop as near outside and leaver the engine running.

a person with his fish and chips in newspaper will come up to you and ask if you have time to take him home.

3. when someone jumps in front of you while you are rushing to get to rank to finish a conversation there, dont assume hes suicidal,

he just needs a taxi.

4.Get the time the bingo comes out.

this is important, if you are outside a winner will want you to take them home as a treat.

5. Talk to all these people in time you will get regular bookings.

cos Nige they will fall in love with you!
