An alleged Taxi driver from the Sefton area recently stated that he and his colleagues had a good working relationship with the Private hire sector, in his area. Contrast that with the following article about the way Manchester react to any and all private hire vehicles who they think are breaking the law and you will see that not everyone has a good working relationship with the private hire sector. Does anyone have any input as to why we can't all be like Sefton? http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cache: ... 2Buk&hl=en Best wishes JD |

Possibly because some in the cab trade make a living out of slagging off PH.
This is then endosed by some unions not allowing PH to join, and the others treating them as second class, whilst gladly taking their money.

John, Sussex will learn soon when he gets his way, and he will, this is the state of things to come. restriction by numbers has been definatly unhealthy, in taxi drivers wanting no more licenses issued have left room for private hire to fill. things are not as cosy in Sefton as Mr T stated if you read all his postings. |

I always take that kind of claim with a pinch of salt, unless I know the area well. For example, I'm sure I've read similar claims from the Brighton taxi offices, but since PH also work from them and thus pay them fees, I wouldn't expect them to say otherwise. Don't know about Sefton, but they certainly disagreed over PH advertising: A PRIVATE hire taxi company is campaigning for a change in local by-laws to allow their vehicles to make money from carrying adverts. Crosby firm Delta Merseyside are the first in the region, and one of the first in the country, to ask for permission to display commercial advertising on their rear passenger doors. The firm, which controls around 750 taxis operating out of Moor Lane,Crosby, in both Sefton and Liverpool, claims drivers are losing a potential pounds 750,000 a year. Current legislation allows private hire taxis to carry their own logo and phone number on their front doors. Only buses and hackney carriages can carry private advertising. The reason, according to the local councils, is to discourage people from illegally flagging down private hire cabs by making sure they are less conspicuous than hackney carriages. In a letter due to be considered by Sefton's licensingcommittee,Delta's company secretary,Paul McLaughlin, says his firm has had offers of up to pounds 1,000 from companies wanting to advertise on one taxi for a year. He said: "We have one company which is offering us a contract to advertise on the whole fleet of 150 taxis which the company rents out to drivers. "Some of our individual drivers who own their own cars say they have been approached with offers of up to pounds 1,000 each. "I don't see why buses and hackneys should be allowed to take revenue for advertising when we can't.We feel we are being unfairly penalised. All we are asking for is a level playing field." Hackney drivers are expected to try to block the application, which was due to be discussed at Sefton's licensing committee next Monday. The South Sefton Hackney Drivers' Association has already delayed the discussion until July 14,after they complained to the council that two of 25 signatures on a petition from Delta contained addresses outside Sefton. Chris Jardin, general manager of one of Liverpool's largest firms,Davy Liver Cabs, said he fears any private hire firm that wants to carry adverts may have a hidden agenda to promote its own brand. He said a change in the law would cause "huge problems" for hackney and other private hire companes. Last night Mr Mclaughlin responded by saying: "We do not intend to advertise our own company, although we may advertise our other company,Delta garages." |

love mr t p.s. our fees to licence a car /cab per year are 120 pounds. Mr T all you have written above is how the law says it should be done, except the law allows private hire account to be subsidised, and the taxi account should pay upkeep of ranks, and pay any costs without scope for subsidy. so your council should have done this since 1847, I suppose though a 7 year run of lawfulness is a good record for a council, though how they have the nerve to hand down judgement, to joe public with an appauling record like this is anyones guess. |
