My wife - god love her - is trying to help me think of new business ideas... what would anyone think of a depot which only charged you for the shifts you work - and is at a lower price - say £5 each day - first 2 months free so you can test if you get enough work - but individual driver organises their own meter and roofsign.
this would run parallel to a unique way to get passengers to use the company! (so there would be business available) |

no - passengers would earn money (from the depot) for fares that others (they introduce) would take. |

Methinks you are confusing the job. Pick up punter via rank or radio, take them from A to B, get paid by punter. Master that first, then try the new stuff. |

Maybe being creative is a way to help everyone? Would you not be interested in a pay as you go depot? Surely this would have to be a better option than paying thru the nose to a depot - I know here that I pay £500 a month and if I could reduce that to £150 and still get work then I am instantly £350 a month better off?? if you were getting work would it matter how the depot brought passengers in as long as they did??? |

If its in the Scottish Borders you'll be lucky to take £1500 in fares here a month at present....If it were such a great Idea you wouldnt need to be moving to the UK. as for Creative....Creativity means nowt at 4.00am on a sunday morning whilst the most creative thing your punters can muster is to decorate the pavement or the floor of your vehicle with a regurgitated Kebab..

"For here am I floating round my tin can. Far above the world" I think you're on a different planet mate... Pick a fare up, drop them off. Return to rank / office. Repeat the same. THAT is the way the trade works. |

Taxicall is a different idea and they seem to be making money?? ![]() well....it might work a treat in some places...but in another area of extremely low population density its just a non starter. I hope you do some homework on the area your Moving to...as you may find things a tad dissapointing in some places |

Be careful!! This guy was a cabbie . . . . http://taxi-driver.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13612 He had ideas like yours, that mushroomed & look where it got him. Passenger from A to B is a good start, then try & follow that with another passenger from A to B. If you're lucky you could get the occasional passenger from A to B to A. |
