Post subject:  2004 Taxi Oscars

Very Shortly I'm going to present the Candidates for the 2004 Taxi Oscars. I know this is a first on TDO so I don't want any other organisations copying my lead.

Anyone wishing to nominate candidates should post here in this thread giving the name of the Candidate and the reason why they should be nominated lol that should be fun.

No doubt Mr Kavanagh will be featured for his eloquent interpretation of the facts at the select Committee hearing.

Mr Peter Perkins is another candidate for his clarity in proclaiming that the public of Birmingham are less well served in the evening since de restriction, then immediately proclaiming that there are that many cabs out at night that there is nowhere to park. hahahahaha, Well done Mr.Perkins I'm sure he will be one of the more fancied runners to carry off an Oscar lol

Our own Charlie the paperlad is a leading candidate for multiple awards in several categories.

There is a category for the best performance by an online website, which I'm sure TDO will figure prominently.

The Transport select committee, are current favourites to carry off the team award for best comedy performance.

The leading candidate for Taxi driver of the year is me, hahahahaha. Joking of course. That honour is hotly contested by Mr. Gladen and several others who shall remain nameless for the time being.

The Oscar for best written report is at present contested by our own TDO, OFT, TGWU and anyone else you care to nominate?

Oscar for the Best mode of Transport is open to offers.

We have several nominations for the worse and best council in England and Wales.

The full list of categories is not available at the moment but I'm sure your inventive minds will come up with some suitable additions.

In fact, there are many categories which I can't divulge for security reasons, but I'm sure you will enjoy them. lol

So get your nominations in so that they can be processed forthwith.

The deadline for nominations is Sunday 16th January the candidates and winners will be announced shortly afterwards.

Best wishes

JD

I'm going to accept that nomination Nigel but you first have to give your reasons for nominating it lol.

In all seriousness.

Every other industry in Britain has at least one sometimes several Annual awards events saluting the best in their industry.

I think it is a classic example of why this industry has the reputation it has, in that it isn't prepared to acknowledge the best in the industry.

If someone wants a business opportunity then there it is.

Firstly for letting our shop Steward down Glen, who today has left the trade and has handed his cab back to the finance company because he was finding it hard to make a living. He will be hard act to follow.

Secondly for being the most inept bunch of tossers I've ever had the privilege of working under.

Thirdly for being themselves no other Council in England can emulate these idiots who run Mansfield Council.

Is that enough to get them into first place?? My cheque book is at the ready.

I think the winner of worst council has to be my near neighbour Brighton and Hove.

In their de-limit report, they wrote chapter and verse about their local trade, but wrote f*** all concerning what it's all really about i.e. customer needs.

In second place I wish to nominate Plymouth Council. They have the wonderful habit of f***ing up much they touch. Having to pay out over a hundred grand in compensation for trying to stop some bloke having an ops license is bad enough, but what makes it worse was they knew he was OK, it's just they didn't like his mate.[-(

In third place, it has to be shared between Manfield and Halton Councils. Mansfield just because Nigel doesn't like them, and I'm not having a ruck with him, and Halton because they have treated the Government's Action Plan with utter contempt. Saying there is no unmet demand because plate values are lower than elsewhere is simply a disgrace.[-X

For the best council, well I would like to nominate all those councils that have de-limited.

As they often say at the Oscars, the list is too long, but they know who they are.

I wish to nominate M&R.

Many people have commented on it (it's even made some committee reports), but no-one has yet given even a tad of a rebuttle.

I wonder why that is? :?

M&R is the candidate with reference to TDO. Perhaps I should have put TDO M&R but I thought most people would know which report I was referring. I suppose you know the OFT report and the TGWU report I was referring to?

Who will decide who gets such awards Mr Button ?

Will it be you or will a committee be formed to decide ?

Can I put your book forward for an award within the best fiction section, as well as M&R. Although both are well written and informative they offer a viepoint bias to the author and their own preferances.

Nidge should retain his title of most handsome.

Sussex should get as many awards in as many different sections as Charlie.

Captain Cab should get the award for best undercover national group representative.

Yorkie should get an award, its normally lifetime achievment for the wrinklies innit  (sorry Geoff)

Mr T should get the award for best newcomer.

Dusty Bin should get an award for being able to stay off the boards even though he is administrator of the site.

That ends the nominations from Gateshead.

Are you refering to TDO as in Taxi Driver Online or as in TDO the member, as M&R was reported to be written by more than one person its not fair to assume that TDO the member can take more than part credit for M&R if indeed he was involved at all.

I'm the sole Judge because it was my idea, besides, other Judges would only complicate matters. I've put a cap quotas I had a survey done and it found there was no unmet demand for the services of Judges lol. However, your contribution has been noted. Thank you for the Gateshead nominations.

By the way, how come you never put Charlie's name forward for a nomination?

Best wishes
