After two years of negotiations (2006) Brighton Streamline & Hove Streamline merged as one big company on October 31 2008 with a fleet of over 360 cars with over 700 drivers and some 50 of so staff.

Fifteen months has now passed since that merger and our first AGM was held last week. That AGM lasted a staggering eight hours as there were many matters to attend to for the first AGM.

Throughout the initial merger process the Board of both Associations battled through many obsticles and the first term of the new Association was quite difficult to say the least!

There have been several "outside" parties who were keen to see the new company fail and indeed there was much interefence and mischief from parties who enjoyed basking in some of our most difficult times.

Rumours were abound about our demise and our aparant disasterous finances which have all proved to be untrue and extremely healthy.

It was only the determination of the Board that has successfully made the merger work especially during the recession.

Upon the proposal of the Board and the original intention, the number of Directors is now reduced to a team of seven.

I am pleased to state the all Directors (in a reduced team of seven) have been re-elected by the Members to serve the Members again.

As with the nature of all such organisation people come and people go. Some stay around for a long time and then reach the point to sit back or move on.

One day I will be one of those people.

I started with the (Hove) Association when I was 21 and I am here some 27 years later..... where did it all go? My God.. there was even an Morris Oxford still working when I started!

However, the company is formed of drivers for the drivers... There is no Boss with us... it is the essence of a true Association. Even with all the different characters and different views.

Apologies to all parties who were determined to get in the way of the success of the company.

But I make no apologies for posting this statement as it has been one heck of fifteen months and I can now smile quietly to myself... and feel very slightly smug ..... but certainly not complacent

The sleeves are rolled up so to all those who tried to get in the way.... bring it on!

So of that 1.5M in 12 months each driver averaged 6 jobs a day? Phew! I reckon they are all busy down the Cafe...behind keyboards...not to mention laid out beneath Angie wearing police uniforms...(can I borrow the anorak Andy)...they must be all filthy rich down there...Lubberly jubbly!

Actually... Im glad you pointed that. Im afraid my maths is not what it should be.

The figures I have given were actually based on an average of 148230 per month and instead of multiplure.ying be 12 I mulitiplied by 10 ( ) which is probably why I drive a cab So that gives a total of 1778760 jobs last year. And that figure also takes into consideration no jobs. i.e. no jobs are already deducted from the fig

So divide that by an average of 365 cars working that gives an average of 13.5 jobs every day (if a cab worked every single day).

Also, the majority of our fleet are hackneys.

These figures will be removed in a few days
