Banned . . . for drink driving a Barbie Car Dad tried to flee in 4mph motor 20/04/2010 A man has been banned from driving for three years after being caught drunk behind the wheel of a toy motor. Police pulled over Paul Hutton after spotting him crawling along a public road at night in the 4ft battery-powered Barbie car - which has a top speed of just 4mph. He refused to stop and after a very short, very low-speed, chase officers caught up and breathalysed him. The divorced dad-of-four was found to be twice the drink-drive limit and spent a night in the cells. After being banned by magistrates Hutton, admitted being a "complete twit". He said: "You have to be a contortionist to get in it, and then you can't get out. It is designed for three to five-year-olds but I put bigger wheels on it." The former RAF aeronautical engineer said he found the car abandoned years ago and recently spent months doing it up with his eldest son. Hutton, 40, added that he suddenly felt the urge to take it for a spin, not realising he was over the limit. He added: "I'm not unhappy with my punishment, just a little bit surprised." He was 250 yards from home at Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, when he was pulled over on April 4. He explained: "The police car came up and the officer said, 'Are you all right, mate?' There was a dispute at first as to what the legalities were. Then they decided I was to be done for drink driving. "I didn't realise I shouldn't be doing it. I knew it was daft, but didn't realise it was criminal. As I cycle everywhere the ban is not too bad." Appearing before Colchester magistrates, Hutton was given a mandatory three-year ban as it was his second drinkdrive offence. He also got a 12-month conditional discharge with £85 costs. Magistrates' chairman Neil Munson said: "I have never seen the like of it. "The vehicle is not capable of doing the speed of a mobility scooter and could be outrun by a pedestrian." I wonder if an appeal is pending He was pi**ed, he had been done before, the vehicle was in a public place, the vehicle was motorised. What has he got to appeal about?

I wonder if an appeal is pending How can they take his licence away for something that he doesnt need a licence to drive....If you do need a licence for a Barbie jeep type vehicle then their must be 10,000 Unlicensed Kids driving illegally every day all over britain, it no different to drunk in charge of a push bike or roller skates or mobility scooter...all not requiring licenses to use.
