It really p*sses me off how BP have been 'bullied' into immediate compensation, whereas the Exxon Valdez compensation is still being fought for by those affected more than 20 years after that oil spill. Also, what about the three American sub-contractor companies that were employed by BP & whose equipment either failed or they were liable themselves for their failings. No mention of compensation being sought from them. The usual Yankee hypocrisy!! |

![]() I ain't on about their fuel price; that's another issue. I'm on about the Obama Brit-bashing & hypocrisy. If it had been an American company it would have been dealt with quite differently. I'm not trying to excuse BP for what has happened, far from it. |

We didn't hammer them for compensation did we? |

I was talking to an oil man yesterday and, having asked him the question, he was firmly of the opinion that BP, Transocean, et al, were liable. Once again, although as a free marketeer it pains me to say it, money was at stake. Lots of corners had been cut in equipment, mud(?), and safety that it was an accident waiting to happen but....not just on this rig. |

I have a close relative that once was a BP contracts manager, and he use to be a right pain for all outside contractors, i.e. he ensured they didn't cut any corners, and they hated him for it. Sadly he retired 5 years ago, and it appears things have changed since.

A large slice of this compensation will be going to Exxon, Gulf and Chevron all US owned companies who also have drilling rigs in the area I believe that has a lot to do with it after all do the oil companies not bankroll and have good access to most presidential candidates ? BP has been caught with their pants down though and will get all the punishment but as mentioned already the US government has actually stated that most oil companies in the area had identical safety standards BP were the unlucky ones and when this is all over no doubt will be owned by one of their American competitors ! |
