Does anybody else collect and deliver prescriptions from chemists to customers on a regular basis?

Been asked to do this a fairly often, but was thinking about adding it as another service, do it on a daily or twice daily collection and deliver for a flat rate of say £2 - £3.

Not sounded the Chemists out about it yet, but going by the amount of repeat prescriptions alone they have waiting to be collected it should be worthwhile. Considering the amount of folk that have difficulty getting out to get their medicaition.

What do you think?

When the delivery guy is on holiday we get to do this as Sussex says it can be the job of the day

If we are delivering some of the more dangerous drugs one of the staff comes with us. If some of the low life's get to know your carrying morphine etc you could be a target

In one of the villages near me the surgery covers quite a large area and they have someone who delivers the prescriptions for free. By that I mean that the patient does not pay for this service. I don't know if the person doing the delivery is paid or not.

We do it for Boots, it's Ok but it can be a bit of a grind when it's busy

I know some of the chemists here have drivers they pay themselves to deliver prescriptions so there is obviously a call for the service. You can only try it and see. Good luck

Done right it can be a great money spinner for the trade.

as some of you may know , my area is very rural. The dispensary is in the GP's surgery, running the meter wouldn't work. Thats why I was thinking of the flat rate charge. With supposedly prescription charges being free in Scotland ( we will see if that still comes to be) it should be affordable to the punters. Being Monday to Friday it could be good bread and butterwork.

I already have an out of hours NHS24 contract for walking wounded to A&E, so dealing with Health Board shouldn't be too much of a problem.

If the job is within your controlled district and you are using a Hack, isn't it the law that the meter is used? Although you can charge anything you like below this rate.

Yes, that is what I meant but to keep it at a level pricing, rather than having 10 drops and running the meter differently for each. Have a set fare.

If you can make a reasonable living out of doing it, then go for it.

Of course there is also nothing stopping you giving taxi cards to all those receiving their drugs.
