Post subject:  Pricing a school contract
Have a guess at how much the tender was that won this contract :shock:
Peebles to Hawick to Newtown St Boswells to Galashiles to Edinburgh back to Peebles. then reversed in the afternoon all in the Scottish Borders
it takes 3 hours each way and a total of 228 miles 114 miles per run according to google maps with fuel costing £117.9 or around £5.45 a gallon at 40 MPG
Also all drivers who do not own there vehicles must be paid the min wage the council have said, and the council want to see the books and wage slips or the owners will loose the contracts

I don't know about that one but I tendered for one yesterday that was 90 miles in the morning and 90 miles in the afternoon. It was going from 2 pick ups south and west of Leicester to 2 drops in Nottingham 3 miles apart during rush hour and the job required an escort. I estimated that with the rush hour traffic it would take just shy of 3 hours each way. So that is 6 hours pay for the driver and 6 hours pay for the escort. 180 miles is about 4.5 gallons at £5.45 per gallon means that the cost for the job without any profit would be around £95.00. I quoted £165.00 per day. The winning bid was £89.00 :shock: :roll:

I asked a county council education transport officer if there was any requirement for them to be satisfied any accepted tender was sustainable (in view of the requirement for insurance/plates/servicing,etc), she said no

ive seen a leics CC job (long run twice a week) which needed an escort with the driver go for about 95p per mile (47.5p average/round trip)

Leics results are pretty transparent (if you have the job details)

check the diff between winning and highest bids!

If thats a guess Brum you have just under cut them by £0.20 :lol:
Now the drivers wages come to £35.10 6x £5.85 wear and tear on the cars, mind you they cannot wear them out anymore than they already are
They have undercut the next offer by £80.00

Someone won a contract round here last year, it was from Ruddington Notts to Kirkby in Ashfield, onto Sutton in Ashfield then onto Stanton Hill then to Dawn House School in Rainworth a total of 30.3 miles. He tendered £14 each way. One of his drivers has told him to shove it.

I dont bother tendering for contracts during the school holidays when everybody is fighting for them. Leave it till school has started or just before its worth the gamble, all the other operators have all their vehicles busy for peanuts and education are desperate to get transport for the kids they have overlooked. We had a job last year £60 a day for a 2 mile each way trip.

Hang your head in shame ,HOW dare you run your cab at a profit for a school contract.did you not know cabs are meant to be a none profit operation when working for local councils
Don't forget out of your looses you have to buy a new car every time they see fit ( council age on cars may very due to complete ars whips running things)
