. . . and I don't think he's licensed to drive a Hackney!!

The taxi was black, but I couldn't make out the vehicle make or model, but it did have a big white sign right in the middle of the roof with the word, 'TAXI' on it. And the front doors were rear hinged!!

He's based a Scripps Garage, but even then he should have had a Hackney Carriage Driver Licence & something tells me he would never pass the Knowledge; even in Aidensfield!!

Another unlicensed driver & vehicle probably!!

No respect for the 1847 Act whatsoever!!

:? :? :? :? :?

That programme is based in the 60s and 70s. I believe that some places did not have licensing in them days. Try looking at Emmerdale for unlicensed operations. Debbie Dingle has been running a taxi business for a few years now and not a plate in sight. Now Terry and Rodney are going into the exec market, again without licenesing.

You'd think with all the strict laws about TV licensing that the broadcaster would get taxi licensing right when portraying taxi drivers in these episodes.

It just encourages unlicensed driving & law breaking by those who watch these popular programmes.

I think a very strong letter from the NTA to the BBC would be well in order & an urgent debate on the matter at the forthcoming NTA AGM too.

I think I might even propose the resolution!!

Bought for a fiver from a farmer in 1976, ran it for a year, before swapping it for a viva HA

Not much point contacting the BBC on this. Both programmes are on ITV.

Mind you I might just come to the AGM, because Sunderland can't be that far from Goathland.

But then if it's on 15th or 23rd October, then I can't.
