The Skoda Superb Estate has been voted 'Private Hire Car of the Year' for the second year running by Professional Driver magazine. Mark Bursa, Editor of Professional Driver magazine, said "the impact of the second-generation Skoda Superb on the private hire market cannot be underestimated. It's a genuine game-changer. In fact, rear legroom is so impressive that most judges gave it 10 out of 10 for this feature alone."

The Skoda Superb Estate has already won TopGear Magazines ‘Luxury Car of the Year’. There is a choice of three petrol and three diesel engines available in the Skoda Superb Estate, plus manual and DSG transmissions. All engines are equipped with direct fuel injection for optimum fuel efficiency performance and low emissions. Trim levels mirror those of the Superb hatchback with S, SE and Elegance models available. Optional features include keyless entry and ignition system and a revised version of the hatchbacks award winning Park Assist system that allows the estate to parallel park in an even tighter space than before. There is also an electronically operated boot opening and panoramic sunroof available. The Skoda Superb Estate is available from £17,720.

CC's a HC driver it's obviously designed for the more descerning and smooth driving PH type person :lol: :wink:

Please explain I'm gearbox challenged :? Is this like the one you have in you cab?

Yes, except mine has one clutch & a DSG has two clutches.

And the DSGs are much better & I believe a lot more reliable.

Two clutches eh. It does only have one pedal tho or no pedal, it doesn't have two pedals does it?

No clutch pedals at all; the clutches are operated electronically by various sensors & change the gears according to the speed the vehicle is travelling at & the style of driving being adopted.

For instance, if you put your foot to the floor the gears will change very late, but if you just feather the accelerator the gears will change early.

Brummie, do you have one? & What mileage do you expect to get out of the dsg box before you have to get a new/recon box replacement?
I think they are the best on the market but have reservations about their shelf life! 8-[ 8-[

Mine isn't the DSG gearbox. I have a Renault NX8 from Voyager, which is a Trafic conversion & at the moment I'm well, well pleased.

From the info that I have gathered so far, the gearboxes seem OK. There are six of these in Brum; all the others are badge Nissan & have done 60-90.000 miles. Two are manual & the rest are semi-auto.

The only major problem has been a leaking clutch slave cylinder & as that is located within the bell-housing, it contaminated the clutch. That was a £1,600 repair, because the slave cylinder, clutch assembly & dreaded dual-mass flywhell had to be changed.

The same driver now has a problem with the gear-shift not going into neutral every time. The garage has told him it needs a new gearbox, but once in neutral it drives perfectly well in both semi-auto & manual modes; no problems at all. I have told the driver that I suspect it is a faulty switch at the 'gear-lever', because that lever is in fact a six-way electronic switch, selecting manual, semi-auto, up-gear, down-gear, neutral & reverse. If the gearbox operates completely correctly, why should the gearbox be the problem?

Of course this elderly driver (who just happens to own the Chauffeurs Coach company too) doesn't look after his cab as well as he possibly could. But he is the only one that has had problems.

Just about everything has dual mass flywheels I recently put my VW transporter in for a new cluth at 140000 miles and had to have a new flywheel £500 bill was £1950 ( including getting the central locking fixed again) I think overall reliability of most manufacturers is improving BUT when they do go wrong the bills are big
