Post subject:  fixed price (out of area)
We have a group of hires all originating and ending from outside our LA. They are for a Company in our town who we provide taxis for on a regular basis. As this Monday is a local holiday we are on Tariff 2 all day. Are we within our rights to set a fixed price for the hires set somewhere between Tariff 1 and Tariff 2, without prior agreement with the company? We normally get metered fare, but in order to keep faith with them we are looking to, with the drivers consent, reduce the T2 price by approx 10%. Is there any legislation to stop us doing this?

All cars are Licensed Taxis, not PHV

You dont even have to use the meter on them and it does not matter if your going through your own area
You can give them a fixed price
we are zoned but if we go to another zone from our own one with a punter, we can give a fixed price

Any fixed price must be with the prior agreement of the company. If you do not agrree the price beforehand you are supposed to use a meter where fitted.

That was our quandary. we only decided on fixing the price after we found 3 routes from A to B, with 5 miles difference (approx £10@T2), and drivers not being decisive enough to all take the one*. We could of course let them meter each journey, then invoice an average price for the 9, but I'm not sure if that would work either as the customer signs a chitty at the journey's end. Any dispute would show the different charges. Hopefully the person organising the taxis from their end is available early monday to agree to the price and then all the above becomes inconsequential.

* personal preferences (mid length) v motorway speed (longest) v nice run through the country (barely shortest) :-|

I thought they'd all want to get there and back asap, being a holiday and all. :wink:

If the bookings terminate outside your licensing district you can charge what you like.

That can be more than the tariff or less, the choice is yours.

However even if the jobs start and finish within your manor, you can always charge less than the set tariff.

Correct, but if they are on Tariff 2 as already stated, they can use the meter on Tariff 2 & then discount at the end of each journey.

BTW, what kind of local holiday is it this Monday in your LA that warrants Tariff 2?

Just asking to see if we can get a local holiday in Brum too, on some random Monday, Thursday or Letshaveaholiday!!

It is always best to use the meter. Offer a discount of ,say,20% off the final price. The punter see's what is on the clock, and is well pleased.
