your area/location must have good ranks and passenger awareness of them, and you will already have the required badge, if you think the change wont cost the earth and the extra trades there go for it, but you may find a HC plate+WAV (if reqd) costs cancel out any extra earnings plus you dont know you HC mates personal circumstances, has he kids, does his wife work, does he get WFTC, does he own or rent his house, has he paid for everything by going into debt? How much are plates? £50,000, £80,000? It's a gamble. Would I do it, no, but then I don't pay your bills. As for the person who has a nice car and lovely holidays, shame you can't say how much debt he is in. If he has no debt, then he is a lucky chap. |

You could always ask your council to delimit pointing out the best practice guidance and get a free plate |

id never pay £70K for a plate, youd be better off aiming for more PH work or an additional earner/income stream |

hamidtaxi taxi what I recomend you to do is put the deal on hold and ask the guy if you could drive the taxi for a month or 2 so you could no what you'll be earning, he may tell you to work nights as the hackney rule is that owners in mornings an drivers at night or he may give you the taxi full time, if nights an you do 6pm - 4am 6 days a week you'll be earning about 8-900 a week or as me I have the taxi full time with a 400 school contract I do about last week I made about 1150, so after you could buy it if your happy |

Ask your council to grant you a licence under the new equality laws, where it stated no council should prevent a potential taxi owner from being granted a licence as long as they put on any type of suitable wheelchair vehicle As in the previous post dont rush in, try before you buy |

Hamidtaxi, you say you are PH, but are you independent or renting a radio off a base/circuit, etc? you dont say what you take at the moment if independent have you tendered for schools work direct with the council, are you on the "quoting" websites? i meet a number of PH and HC drivers each day on the school run, they all agree the "good times" are long gone |

One thing to watch out for if the council refuses to grant you a Hackney badge you could be up the creek good and proper make sure that this isn't a problem and have a chat to several hackney drivers and verify what the earnings are |

Quote: The main difference between the two is that a hackney carriage can be flagged down by the public and can sit on the various taxi ranks in Aylesbury. There are only 50 white hackney carriage licences available for the town of Aylesbury and not surprisingly these are fully subscribed. In order to get a licence the vehicle has to meet certain criteria in terms of dimensions, appearance and cleanliness and of course its mechanical integrity. Licences run for 1 year and during that time the car will be subject to further checks and tests. FIFTY?..... Quote: Aylesbury is the county town of Buckinghamshire in South East England. In the 2001 census the Aylesbury Urban Area, which includes Bierton, Fairford Leys, Stoke Mandeville and Watermead, had a population of 69,021, which included 56,392 for the Aylesbury civil parish.

Even at 2001 census levels thats 50 hacks to 60,000 people? methinks your PH takings should exceed that of HC's you need to re-evaluate what you do and how you do it give more details how you work now |

Quote: Aylesbury Vale District is a 2 zone area for Hackney Carriage's. The town Hackney's are limited to 50 and must be purpose built wheelchair access vehicles in Black. The rural Hackney's are not limited and also must be purpose built in White. We currently have 8 rural and 50 town Hackneys.
