Post subject:  Faulty information on BTEC / NVQ course

One of the posts made on here recently reminded me of something sent to me by an NTA member from the Mersyside area.

Apparently taxi drivers are being taught;

Non Payment of Fares (Bilking)

It is not acceptable to imprison a passenger in the vehicle and drive to a police station expecting the police to resolve the non-payment of a fare. The police will not want to get involved with small fares disputes. The non-payment of fares is a civil matter dealt with through the county courts. The customer may also have grounds for a complaint of being forceby imprisoned against their will.

The police will continue to remind drivers that if they have any doubts as to the motives of any passenger they can refuse the hire, or ask for the money on account and then recalculate the difference at the completion of the journey.

If drivers are being taught the above, then we are surely all going to hell on a tuk tuk.

It's not something I've ever heard of, but, hey what the hell do I know. Apart from that the police were more than happy to assist me when a passenger was trying to get out of paying their fare. Perhaps they should ensure they have the correct facts before they start telling drivers what they are.

Or read the law on such matters.

There's plenty of other inaccuracies in the courses, but I know toots would say, you should write your own. :lol:
