we nearly had 2 new house guests when i came back from Derby at 2am the other day, freezing cold, snowing, very dark and my headlamps picked out two small deer at the roadside, if id have had a shed and straw bales here id have whisked em back, i felt guilty not picking em up, poor bambis!

They were probably fully grown Muntjacks. Apparently they are very tasty.

they were Muntjacks, I was passing Calke abbey, i think they have a herd running wild maybe

oh, maybe not tho!

Quote:
Calke is home to a herd of red and fallow deer. A deer shelter was built in the park in 1773 amid old ridge and furrow land. Much of the 19th-century perimeter wall of the site, which has lean-to open sheds, has been lost. In 1973 and 1974 the deer were brought back as an enclosed herd and visitors can now walk round most of the perimeter.
