| Post subject: | Councillor’s email rant over ‘limp’ sandwiches |
When people are losing their jobs an idiot like this pops up. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpoo ... z19VUDGVxL Councillor’s email rant over ‘limp’ sandwiches at council meeting Dec 29 2010 by Ben Schofield, Liverpool Echo A MERSEYSIDE councillor defended an email rant he sent to borough bosses complaining about the standard of a buffet offered before a meeting. Sefton councillor Alf Doran chewed out the manager responsible after being served sandwiches that were “limp, soggy and looked flat”. The Conservative Formby representative, who was the borough’s mayor last year, said he “availed himself of the buffet provided by the council” before a committee hearing. But he added in an email to civic services manager Jason Carroll: “Over recent months I for one have noticed the standard of food served on such occasions has been steadily deteriorating, but Monday evening was by far the worse I have sampled. “The sandwiches were of very limited variety.” Giving more food for thought, he said: “On white bread – tuna – egg – cheese – some type of meat (I’m not certain what) there may have been one or at the very most two other varieties of filling on white bread, I can’t be certain as I only eat the brown. “On brown there was only three or four fillings – egg with what I think was a ‘Chinese’ or some other lettuce leaf (singular) – cheese – a meat salad and maybe one more.” The email was sent after a meeting at Bootle Town Hall – just weeks before the Government announced £83 billion in public sector cuts. Cllr Doran said he was not the only politician who noted the lacklustre spread. The buffets at Sefton’s committee meetings are provided by an outside catering firm. Since Cllr Doran’s complaint the firm agreed not to charge the council for that evening’s food. Cllr Doran told the ECHO he complained because he wanted to ensure best value for money for taxpayers’ cash. At a meeting of the full council earlier this month it was agreed that food would not be served at future Sefton Council meetings in a bid to save £20,000 over three years. I fail to see what that has to do with job losses; but I do see his point about value for money. |
