right

it seems nowadays that when you buy a PC/Laptop, all you get is a screen that lights up

i.e. you dont get any decent software that allows you to actually DO much on it

so...............

i want msoft office 2010 - it seems its LOADED but whose got a spare "key"?...

tight bstards...........

Try Mr Google and there are 1000s of free downloads, or so I'm told.

tight bstards...........

When I bought my new computer in July 2010, PC World told me that although Microsoft Office 2010 was loaded it was only a tiny part of the programme and virtually useless to anyone wanting to do any real work on the computer.

I ended up buying Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 at an extra cost.

There is no DVD/CD disc now with the software on it in either case.

The 'key' in both cases is a code in letters and numbers, which you type into the prompt once you have a very good and secure Internet connection and are on the correct Microsoft website page. Once you have typed in the 'key' and pressed return, the Microsoft Office software is downloaded onto your computer over the Internet. It does take some time.

This is apparently the way all of Microsoft's software is bought now. You pay for a 'key' not a software disc and the 'key' is a code which is typed into the prompt on the Microsoft webpage to start the download.

Alternatively, I am advised that if your computer already has Microsoft Office installed, you still need the 'key' to be typed into the correct Microsoft webpage so that your preloaded software can be activated over the Internet. Don't ask me why, but appaerntly this is the NEW WAY!!

Needless to say the 'key' works only for the number of times you buy the download for, if you have multiple computers.

So don't look for a disc, look for a 'key' which is a code and may be behind a scratch off panel in a box big enough to hold a dozen DVDs/CDs, which was the case with my software purchase.

Good luck!!

the spotty faced oik (ex McDonalds staff) who sold me the laptop was getting annoyed i wouldnt buy any extras (extended warranty, accident damage,Msoft office) and was quite snappy, ive found a key breaker but also "open office" which claims to be as good as msoft and free

what he offered me in the shop "its only £60 here now, nut its £90 otherwise" was a small package not big enough to hold a CD/DVD so i think that was just a key
